I hope all the U21's get knocked out of this tournament early on. It's ridiculous to be having lower league teams playing U21 sides. For Bolton its a no win scenario. Either we win and its expected or we lose and its embarrassing. The top two leagues should be playing no part in this competition as its played as if its a lower league cup.

The only positive I can see for this match is our backup players getting some game time, Comley, Brockbank, etc.

Maybe this will give us a chance to see a potential loanee that might tempt our manager.
I know Liverpool got dunked at Rochdale but haven’t a lot of U21 sides done well in this? Not sure you could say an U21 side is not a favourite.

Agree they should be nowhere near it. It’s ridiculous.
Maybe thats the problem, that quite a lot of talent is just swept up by the Premiership teams and don't get to play in lower league teams. If they're good enough for beating league two sides, or league one sides then they should be playing in the leagues not necessarily playing U21 football.

Looking at the other results, I don't think it's in the English football pyramids interest to turn around and say that these results are helping:

Morecambe 0 - 1 Everton U21
Oldham 2 - 3 Leeds United U21
Scunthorpe 0 - 3 Man City U21
Bradford 0 - 3 Man Utd U21
Ipswich 1 - 2 WHU U21
Wycombe 1 - 3 Aston Villa U21
Stevenage 3 - 4 Tottenham U21

There's a good chance we could get beat tonight and given teams aren't taking this too seriously it might play out that way. Give the U21's their own tournament.

Blink and you'll miss it. Bolton 1-0 Delfouneso puts Bolton ahead, I think from a Brockbank cross?

Gilks poleaxed.... seems like a real shame that we've not been able to get Alexander or Hutchinson on the bench...

Some good performances out there so far.

Gilks - Looking a bit suspect, that might be down to the bad tackle.
Gordon - Ok, having to deal with quite a few wayward passes. He looks like he'd really benefit from getting a decent usage of that right foot.
Baptiste - Looking competent, steady
Aimson - Looking exceptional so far, MOTM to this point
Brockbank - Really good so far, nice assist
Comley - Done himself justice. Nice passing sideways and backwards but doesn't seem to be offering much going forward.
Thomason - Plenty of effort, running around without really making an impact
Sheehan - Some lovely passing, getting loads of time on the ball
Isgrove - Quiet match so far, one or two passing opportunities but relatively quietly
Delfouneso - Right place, right time, right finish. Performing well and looking threatening in parts, like Isgrove.
Kachunga - Nice link up, a lot of back to goal link up play, i'm sure he'd like more in behind

As for Liverpool. They've been good and looking threatening.

Amadou makes it two!

Lovely play by Delf to tee up Gordon with a ball across the box with Brockbank and Bakayoko waiting.

2-0 from an outstanding goal. Delf brilliant. Gordon brilliant. Baka couldn’t miss.

Big shame Nat Phillips hasn't scored in his own net there. Bet during his youth team days he would've been hoping for a goal for Bolton, there was his chance.
