He shouldn’t get a free pass IMO - best team in the league just got mauled at home…yet another game we haven’t scored in and we always concede. Needs to learn.
Come on, that’s the one truly awful performance we’ve had for over a year under Evatt and it was against the best team we’ve come up against in that time.

Aye, Declan John. Good point. Starting to wonder if it’s going to become obvious why he never played anywhere else. Very disappointing so far.
Agree to an extent on John, he might be our highest earner and he’s been very poor this season, however, he’s still better than a “good on his day” Gordon.

It’s not like we didn’t create anything today, we had decent chances, hit the crossbar, should have had a penalty. Let’s face it, we were missing Jones and John who are key to how we play and when we are playing the best we need our best. I hope today and the aftermath doesn’t ruin our confidence.
Decent chances?? I must have missed them.

Nobody is calling for Evatts head but today was on him. He should apologise to the fans and we move on.

He has to realise that just playing football isn’t enough. In a season against good sides you need to be able to win all sorts of ways. And we are showing a vulnerability and an inability to defend to play physical sides that is looking more and more serious. Today has to be the point that is addressed. Nobody cares if we have the ball or play football if we are brushed aside so so easily by local rivals who let’s be honest didn’t need to find 3rd gear.

Football is pride and passion and grit as much as it is the fancy Dan stuff. We’ve gone far too far into Wenger pretentious nonsense. We now need to regroup go to Plymouth and as an absolute minimum setup to try and not concede. Because we need to be more compact and more awkward to play against. Full stop. There is no route to anything good by telling everyone that we are the best side in the league when it’s patently and obviously not true.

I thought Gordon held his own today.. Jones was a big big miss.

Might be the worst by some distance but you can’t go chucking about phrases like best team in the league and then not get criticised for another defeat to nil.

For me if we finish mid table I’m happy - it’s a work in progress. But don’t go putting the players up there as best in the league if you don’t want the flak that comes with being far from that on the table.

We were poor against Shrewsbury last time out and stole a win really. We’ve definitely struggled of late and performances are dipping week in week out. I think we’ve lost our way personally. Too much focus on playing pretty football not enough about how to win games and we should use Wigan as a blueprint for what a good league one side looks like. Learn from it. Evatt said we didn’t need McClean earlier this season. That’s another blunder given he’s better than what we have by a mile.

Selection today was all over the place. Not helped by Lee being out in fairness as Sheehan for me is nowhere near league one level and that’s been apparent after what was an exciting start from him but he was nowhere near their midfield today.

All we can ask is for the manager to be honest and to start setting us up more appropriately against better sides.

BWFCi: fully agree he needs to hush his mouth a li’l. He needs to think before talking or he will only get caught in more and more traps as his career develops.

But if you think he’s going to bite, scratch and fart his way to a Parkinsonian 0-0 - say, Norwich away that tome - you’ll have a long wait.

Personally, personnel permitting, I would go back to 4-2-3-1 at Plymouth (although their back-three formation might tactically tempt him otherwise). But I’m not the manager, and he will always seek to win. Maybe as he matures he might realise that you can’t just keep throwing men forward to solve problems. That really is Coyle-like.

Not just that. Today was going to be a fight and a scrap. Yet we played like Arsenal used to do at the Reebok. Like little kids who thought it wasn’t fair a big side turned up and made it tough. Evatt needs to take responsibility for that. There is no way we are good enough to outfootball Wigan or Rotherham and we need to adapt in these games accordingly.

Last season he did though. We setup on our good run often to just sit back and ended up winning 1-0 week in week out.

The naivety of thinking a Wigan side would let us open them up is really annoying. They’ve got better players than us in every position. And yet we play like we are Man City and they are Hull or someone. Seriously all I want to see is us reacting to the opposition and not just playing the same way every week because we are being found out here at a rapid pace and this is a major step up from league two.

Assuming Lee isn’t fit I wouldn’t be surprised to see Thomason back in. Hides less than Sheehan.

The problem with telling your players they’re amazing is that they’re then amazed when they get beat. It’s like the old comparison between Keegan and Ferguson when they went head to head. Every time United lost it made them stronger because it increased their siege mentality; every time Newcastle lost it felt like an abandonment from an unjust God.

I don’t know how to square that circle because Evatt’s cheerleading has done him well so far. And I would hate for him to become a snarling negative Mourinho-like sniper, or even a ditchwater-dull say-nowt like Parky. But he has to measure it, and judging by his personality and the way I know the media works, I’d say he just needs to be more careful in what he says. Imagine how those outside the tent p*ssing in might take it.

The difficulty Evatt faces is that our recruiting was for his style of playing. Does he have the playing personnel to adjust to a more physical, direct style of Sam Alardayce team when necessary?

No problem with bigging your team up but also needs a dose of reality. Teams like Wigan and Rotherham who can win in all sorts of ways win leagues. Teams that have to play the same way each week don’t.

Evatt needs to realise that as you go up the leagues the need to win games against the odds goes up. And he has to realise that needs a different setup to let’s dominate possession. Because it has started to unravel- not just today.

Haven't felt this low since we lost 5-0 to Stoke. Sadly, not all members of the family clan support the Whites; I don't want any of them to visit right now. Hammered 4-0 by Wigan..the shame of it... :(

I mean there is a balance between Sam Allardyce football and just predictable one dimensional possession.

We don’t and shouldn’t just go long. But we need more ideas that just winning in the exact same way every week.

The midfield today needed more presence. I accept we don’t have that but lesson for January is we need to add more steel through our middle for games like today. And another right back. Our problems are in those areas. If we can find another forward then great but fix the ones further back first.

For the avoidance of doubt, those people aren't fans. They are pathetic fecking imbeciles who should be ashamed of themselves. So.embarassing to see.

And as for the Wigan fans dismantling the stadium, I have no words....

That’s the Willy waving I was talking about before the game that I hate in these fixtures. Apparently I was told they are just fans and supporting the team. Nonsense.
