I only really have an interest because it might make our signing of Dempsey more likely, but, on the face of it, he seems like a great appointment for them.

Interesting view point. If I was going in, today as a manager, unless I'd had chance to do lots of homework, I wouldn't want one of my assets heading out of the door, if at all possible. Big enough job trying to stay up, without losing a decent player....

Depends how pragmatic they are. They're 10 points adrift, likely 11 with Wimbledon having a game in hand. Given they're highly likely to be going down, the rational thing is surely to take the cash assuming it's ball park reasonable. But rational and football don't always go together.

Well, quite. But as a new manager, I wouldn't be being paid for that rationale! :-) I'd be pitching we've got a chance to escape the drop....

It will surely have been a conversation between Scally and Harris. "We've got a decent offer in for Dempsey, that can raise some cash for you to start a rebuild today." Harris would have been within his rights to say he'd rather keep him, but the reaction from various journalists seems to be that Harris's appointment fires the starting gun.

Always take the toll road.

EDIT Scally:
"Neil’s first job will be to oversee any movement of players, in or out of the club today, and to prepare the team as best he can for tomorrow night’s game. I would ask all supporters who care and love the club, irrespective of their views on other matters, to come out and support the club in force tomorrow evening and focus solely on supporting the team and showing the new management team the respect and consideration they deserve, which will enable them to start the process of rebuilding the team. It won’t be an immediate fix but Neil will change the world for the better as quickly as possible. The work starts immediately.”

Yeah they're having a fire-sale. Vadaine Oliver to Wrexham? Jack Tucker to somewhere?

We've got a few cast offs they can have.

I've been of the opinion for a couple of weeks that it won't actually be the manager's decision and that instead their chairman was holding out for a better offer. There seemed to be a bit of a consesus online that they were waiting to appoint their new manager first, though, which is why I mentioned it.

Heh. Nice idea, but adding variables rarely helps expedite deals.

Liam Gordon might make sense (geographically and possibly talent level) but Evatt's said he's staying put. Dempsey's arrival would push Tutte further to the periphery but, conversely, he's almost always played for northern clubs. Delf I don't think can cut it at this level, but if they want him...

I wouldn't mind him at all.

I wasn't meaning as part of the Dempsey deal just in general if, as you say, they're having a bit of a fire sale now while player values are at L1 level :D

Absolutely even if it does include the big add ons that Iles is alluding to.

Gills look like replacing Dempsey with Ben Thompson. Good business for them.

11pm. This being Monday, I shall spend the penultimate hour of the window playing football, and then its final hour collapsing into car, bath and bed. :D

I love deadline days, but this one is weird.

We are at a point where we understand exactly how the team is supposed to function and precisely why the lad we want is being targeted. If we don't get him we can be confident we'll be fine, if we do we know he's slotting into a system that will suit him and arriving at a club more likely to offer him success than the one he has left.

This is a strange, alien world that we've not had since Sam and arguably didn't have then (with some of the bizarre deals we did then).

All the transfers make sense from a footballing perspective. They're all financially sound. They all seemingly improve us. The contracts are all the right length.

It's so weird.

Ha! That Morley signing looks a phenomenal piece of business. I suppose it helps to be a big draw at this level. Offering longer deals is also pretty alien - so if someone comes in to sign a player we can turn around and demand a fee…and then reinvest.

Dempsey signing completely agree…first time in a long time I’m scratching my head seeing him as an improvement but not a clue how he’s getting in the side.
