Couple of big names fell in the Northern section last night. Sunderland lost 1-0 at home to 91st-placed Oldham, while Wednesday were humbled at Hillsborough by Hartlepool, 3-0. That means there are only two teams above us left in the Northern section, and only three in the whole competition.
So the teams we might face, in descending league order:
Rotherham (1st, D3)
Wigan (2nd, D3)
Crewe (24th, D3)
Tranmere (10th, D4)/Harrogate (7th, D4)
Hartlepool (17th, D4)
Carlisle (22nd, D4)
Oldham (23rd, D4)
For the record, the teams left in the Southern half (who we could meet in the round after next, ie the quarter-finals):
McDons (6th, D3)
Charlton (15th, D3)
Cambridge (16th, D3)
Exeter (3rd, D4)/Portsmouth (9th, D3)
Sutton (6th, D4)
Colchester (18th, D4)
Chelsea U21
Arsenal U21

Drawn against Hartlepool away.
. .
Fairly sure I’ve read that U21 teams couldn’t be drawn against each other till the semis, but hey-ho - not my circus, not my monkeys

Well it gets rid of one. Leaving just one. When we win this I want it to be against a proper team.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 2:51 pmDrawn against Hartlepool away.

Our opponents Hartlepool today followed up their midweek win at Hillsborough in this competition with a win at Lincoln in the FA Cup.

Not, in truth, the most exciting of destinations but at least it's a bit of a rarity: we haven't played there since 1998, when a 16-minute Nathan Blake hat-trick triply underlined Bob Taylor's first-leg decider.
