Per wiki, Erhun Oztumer's 5ft 3
And shite.
Oztumer was shite for us, but in each of the two previous seasons he'd scored 15 goals from midfield in a not very good team. I'd settle for that sort of shite for a while.

Gerald Cid was 6'2". Anyhow, I'm still struggling to beat 5'3".

Not entirely relevant, but neither Xavi or Iniesta were giants in height (certainly in football). Five feet seven/eight at most.

They are two of the best players of all time. Not sure we've got many Xavis or Iniestas lurking in our academy...

Was Harrison Biggins any good for them? His old man Wayne was a tough striker back in the 90s. Always wanted us to sign him.

Back to the game: Nothing anybody needs reminding about, but our defence had more holes then a cullender at times last night. Baptiste worried the xxxx out of me and was turned inside out and beaten for pace far too often for comfort. Fleetwood were very good at finding the wingers and strikers with long balls and (making allowance for our depleted side) stand a chance of turning us over in the league unless we get our act together.

Big noises about Ameachi, Kachunga, Dapo and co, none of whom broke many pots last night because Fleetwood operated a pack the box defence pretty well. We got no space to shoot (they got much more) and its a good job they weren't a bit more accurate. They also got some pretty useful crosses in. In short, we won but not impressively. Need to do better.

Amen. ae:)

The Accounts Shaker at our place couldn't believe we'd managed to sign Oztumer, claiming him to be "the most skilful player he'd ever seen at League One level". Still, old Parky had a knack of wringing such nonsense out of a player.

And by all accounts, whilst it doesn't matter now, we were lucky to win and and a few of our lads got the run around. I'll put it down to them struggling against fresher legs and say it's a good job they've got a week to rest

I think by the same token, we'd have been miffed if we'd lost. Our performance was at the level of "pre-season friendly, don't get hurt"

Aye, precisely.

We had more possession, passes, shots, shots on target, corners, aerial duels won and more importantly goals. Some runaround.

They had a shadow XI out, but by the end we had no Santos, John, Lee, Dapo, Doyle and Amaechi, not to mention Williams, Sheehan, Isgrove, Bakayoko, Tutte and Brockbank.

We ended the game with Thomason (20) anchoring midfield behind three 18-year-olds and Delf, who was again worryingly anonymous, but on the other hand the kids looked confident on the ball and helped us to precisely the sort of solid 1-0 win we're told is occasionally Just The Ticket.

Job done; on we go, firstly for a nice sit down.

Other results in this competition last night show that league position isn't always a decent guide. The other three Northern games all went to pengies, with Lincoln losing at fourth-tier Carlisle, Rotherham edging out Port Vale and Wigan squeezing past Accy.

Anyway the draw's on Saturday after Coventry-WBA on the telly (KO 12.30), and we're in it. Games played first midweek in January.

Please no. An extra game and possible penalty shoot out...We need it not.

No replays in this comp. I don't even think there's extra time.

Nope, straight to penalties if level after 90 minutes (confirmed, I've looked up the rules).

Only exception is the final, which *does* go to extra time if level after 90. Won't be golden goal though – that went in 2002, replaced by "silver goal" which gave teams the rest of that half to equalise, which itself was canned in 2004 and we reverted to olde-worlde extra time... if any at all.

While we're here: no seeding from now on. Next round (16 teams) is also regionalised, but after that they aren't. Quarters and semis are still one leg only.

Talking of 2 leg semis gives me just cause to post this. A 17 year old me in amongst the limbs there!
