A final point after he was rightly criticised on Tuesday, Santos was immense yesterday. His only limitations are between the ears and he had the risk/reward calibration much better tuned! A couple of box body on the line blocks too.
He was freed up by having two with him. It let him attack the ball and make interceptions without worrying about space in behind him, so there was none of that "Step forward, freeze, drop back" stuff that too often disjoints the back four. MJ dropping back to maintain a back five (when the free-man wingbacks pressed crossers) also meant he could step out in the box without worrying about gaps.

He was, as you say, immense.

He was back playing as that deep pivot as well, which was how we wanted him to play when we got him in. Some of the passes he picked out were excellent and when the front line is fully fit we'll get joy there.

Lovely summary, Pruf.

Good victory that.. Mentioned it on here before, but there's something to be said abut this team with lower possession = win

I know it's not how he wants to play, but it's good that we can seemingly change things

Ipswich were Bolton on Saturday - Good possession, looked a good side, but ultimately, mistakes in possession cost them goals, they created very little and they were punished for it

When people say we can’t influence the possession stats what we can do is always play quicker as we did Saturday. Don’t be pinging it side to side and letting teams just sit in.

Move it forwards get it into the box. If teams defend it we win the transition and spring from there.

And ultimately playing that way lowers our possession and lowers in theory our control of the game. But Saturday is a perfect example of how you don’t need 60% possession to be in control.
