per Simon Marland's Bolton Wanderers The Complete Record, it was Terry Wharton.

Team was Hopkinson, Ritson, Farrimond, Williams, Hulme, Hatton, Wharton, Hull, Greaves, Bromley, Phillips. No sub used so I couldn't tell you who it was. 15,202 on.

I'm guessing it was Dave Lennard, who was the used sub in a handful of fixtures either side of this one. Not a name I'm familiar with but played over 100 games for us.

Aye, probably right. Not much squad rotation back then!

If you're into that era, I did a couple of picture gallery write-ups using the superb photography of Peter Robinson. No Wanderers (although you do see the original Tomo at a petrol station) but some very evocative shots. For some, it'll take you right back; for others like me who were still on the drawing board, it takes you right there.

They've just floated back into my mind as I've recently been contacted by the photographer. Nice bloke.

Terry Wharton former Wolves wonder winger also played Cricket for Darcy lever during the summer of his time at Bolton. He was Bolton born.

That surprises me. I'd assumed our attendances around that period were significantly higher but apparently not. According to THIS possibly unreliable record, our average attendance in 1968 was 11,487. It seems it was only in the immediate post-war years we had very high average attendances.

But anyway, I'm not an attendance bore. It just found it surprising.

Link doesn’t work Nicko but I have seen that site before. Our attendances have always fluctuated. Even in the boom years we’d have some slim gates when we weren’t playing “attractive” oppos - derbies, key games, famous players.

I'll admit to being an attendance bore. It's certainly a topic I find far more interesting than XG or football finances :D

Fluctuation is right DSB. I imagine that Sunderland game was our biggest league crowd of the 1970s and most of the 1960s. Less than 10 years later we had our lowest league attendance of all time.

Either side of the war were our best years. Our division 3 crowds at the Reebok have held up surprisingly well against prebious history and other clubs of similar stature.
