I see Rotherham have lost 2-0 at Burton. Goals from a long throw and a free-kick.

Maybe Burton are good at that.

7th-placed Sunderland are only six points off automatic promotion. They really are gonna be so annoyed when they stay down again.
They are good at it…presume there is not a blade of grass left on that mud bowl either making football practically impossible. If that’s the height of their ambitions, fair enough. Next season I would like to give them two beatings, one a football masterclass at home and one absolute shjthouse undeserved 1-0 away where we just deal with the aerial stuff and knock in a scruffy last minute winner. Time to deal with these!

Just a quick update on the "Table since 1st Jan" - it's looking a lot closer after the Easter break...ahead of Rotherham, pretty much level with Wigan. Behind Sheff Weds and MK Dons, but not by as much as before Easter...

The two in front of us and us have left to play:

Sheff Weds: Fleetwood (a), Wycombe (a) and Portsmouth (h)
MK Dons: Morecambe (h), Plymouth (a)
Us: Cheltenham (a), Fleetwood (h)

Quite interesting to read that Worthy. Especially considering it feels like our season has tapered off and yet going off the results we've performed close to those winning the league.

The top 4:

MK Dons: 44 from 21
Wigan: 43 from 22
Sheff Wed: 42 from 20
Bolton: 41 from 21

Really shows the high standards we've kept. Although I suspect the fact we've had a relatively easier close to the season has helped, our opposition in the first half of the season didn't help.

Thanks! Forgot about that site and its curious but useful feature. Thoughts:
(1) Burton have only won three home league games in 2022 - but two were against us and Rotherham. Are they inconsistent or did they catch us and the Millers on bad nights?
(2) Toot toot! Fire up the boilers! We're gonna rule the waves!

Remarkable table

Seven teams with at least 80 points

Has that ever happened before?

Insane isn’t it.

Closest I could find was the 09/10 season which finished like this, but admittedly I haven’t looked that far back.

You got further back than me, last evening Brommers! I gave up about 2015 :-)

Update on the only table that counts. That since Jan 1. Tight at the top. Oh how sad that the pretenders, Wigan and Rotherham could go up. A shadow of our team... :-)

Bodes well - we have still missed players like Lee, Isgrove, Kachunga for a lot of that time as well.

I think only Lee would make a meaningful difference. But next season will be tougher still. The division will still have most of these teams that are going to be 80 points or thereabouts in pursuit of the playoffs. Plus the champo dunces, which include under new ownership Derby who one might assume will at the very least be pushing top 6. Peterborough no doubt feel they will be up there too. Discontent at Barnsley but who knows?

I think we’ve seen second half of the season that adding the power and pace up front and having bigger more physical forwards has helped us. As did Fosseys amazing pace and power out wide and direct running. Midfield has improved from what it was pre January which was a shambles and we’ve got more options there but still not nailed the balance. The wing backs and centre halves need work. But I think we have a blueprint. More physicality across the team to match up alongside players who can also play is how we will match anyone on their day.

In a BN piece this week Evatt named the three midfielders he was forced to pick at Rotherham on Jan 1st and I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’d obviously buried the memory…

This is both right and wrong. Right in that it's correct, wrong in that we had to play them...

In answer to the thread-title question - looks like 10th, which is where we finished last time we were promoted from the Fourth... interesting promotion-chasing times ensued...

If we do finish 10th or there about I'm more than happy with that. The aim for this season for me was always one of don't get relegated and build a better squad. That has now been achieved and should be looked at as nothing more than a successful season. I know at one point, like many others, I dared to dream the impossible would happen again and we had a chance of making the play offs but as I've already said, this season has been a good season. Time to look forward to summer with anticipation of how our squad will evolve :pissed: The kettle is happy as it can have an extended leave of absence
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

Remember the folk calling for Evatt's head on Twitter and saying the issue was the defenders and not midfield?

Those were the days.

You don't need to do that. You can go watch a replay of both their goals... :-)
