When does the window "slam shut" is it the end of August?
Next Thursday. 11pm for Premier, so I assume same for us plebs.

Ta. Not sure the words coming out of Club suggest anything major (or at all) happening, between now and then...That might be because we're great at keeping shit quiet, but generally you're hearing things like "I'd like one maybe two before the window shuts" and unless I've missed it, we've not heard any of that going on...

Not sure on that. It's all tealeaf-reading but I suspect Evatt wouldn't say that sort of thing because it raises expectations (and thus potential disappointments); it could cause a problem with the board; it could also disenchant the current squad (albeit I understand the arse-kicking argument espoused by Ghost and others).

The 'new' club tends to do well at keeping things quiet. Evatt hasn't always managed that, but maybe he's learning.

Evatt has said he and Markham have a long list of potential targets, and I think we'll be hitting the phones to see who's available. It's not the urgent situation of the last two Januarys but I'd guess our door is never closed if a player can strengthen us. As I say, the way Bradley is thriving (like Traf before him) might just tempt both us and potential parent clubs into a couple of speculative gambles. Which is one reason why I'm having a peep at player lists; another is that it passes the time when work's quiet

He's not been particularly secretive in previous windows. Plenty of quotes from the last one (not in terms of who, but on the "we're still in the market for people")....

Transfer deadline a week tomorrow. Still spending the odd idle moment gazing at big clubs' academies wondering if they've got any more Trafs and Bradleys they can lend us.

LIVERPOOL
Dominic Corness
(05/05/03) - Cultured left-footed midfielder, can and set-piece taker with great vision. Can also play defensive midfielder and left-back, so I’m thinking LWB?

Jake Cain (02/09/01) - Wigan-born central midfielder who was loaned to Newport last season and played 28 times. Creative and attacking but Newport boss James Rowberry praised him for adding “the horrible side of the game”. Cain said this summer he was disappointed not to kick on back at Liverpool: “I need to go on loan again,” he said. “I need men’s football, and I feel now that I’ll be ready to hit the ground running when the opportunity comes – I know that I’m ready.”

MAN U
Di'Shon Bernard
(14/10/00) – Loaned to Hull last season and started well under Grant McCann, winning the club Player of the Month for October at a canter with 73% of the vote. Predominantly centre-back (6ft 2in), he also filled in at right-back. But new gaffer Shota Arveladze didn't fancy him and his season dwindled to nowt: after playing 23 of the first 30 league games, he only appeared in three of the last 16. If United wanted to loan him down a division, McCann – now at Posh – might fancy him again.

Ethan Galbraith (11/05/01) – Norn Iron international, like Conor Bradley but two years older (although still underage by EFL rules - shows what a prospect Bradley is). The central midfielder was loaned to Donny last season (36 games, one goal, four assists, Donny fans loved him) and although he trained with the rags' first team this summer, reports this week say they will loan him again to the right club. Norn Iron manager Ian Baraclough calls him "our Iniesta or Xavi" but five yellows before Xmas suggests a certain tenacity too – as does the fact he filled in at right-back during an injury crisis.

Charlie Savage (02/04/03)
- Son of a w anker, but he impressed in the rags' early pre-season games as a deep-lying midfielder with a good range of passing. He and Will Fish both trained with Ipswich (managed by rags alumnus Kieran McKenna) last spring, so Suffolk might be a loan destination if the kid's sent out to earn his spurs.

Will Fish (17/02/03)
– Ball-playing England U19 centre-back compared to John Stones for his calmness under pressure, love of quick low vertical passes through the lines. Was loaned to Stockport last season but the manager was quickly replaced. Third division may be a big step up for him.

EVERTON
Lewis Warrington
(10/10/02) – Although starting his career as a forward, he has typically played at the back of Everton's midfield three (hence the nickname 'The General'; however, when loaned to Tranmere from last January he played in a midfield two – "I went to Tranmere as a sitting midfielder but the loan has transformed me into an all-round centre midfielder. I feel more athletic and fitter." Tramps boss Micky Mellon: "He's capable of knowing when to link up with the front men and he’s capable of driving that midfield at back fours.”
BURNLEY
Adam Phillips
(15/01/98) – not a kid any more (he's 24), but not in Kompany's remodelled first team so worth mentioning in passing while I'm trawling the reserves. the goalscoring midfielder has had three loans at Morecambe and one at Accy; at Morecambe he scored 4 in 11, then 10 in 33 in the first half of their promotion season (he went to Accy for the second half), then 7 in 42 last season. A bundle of second- and third-tier teams are interested in the set-piece specialist who has 8 goals and 8 assists in 60 third-tier games (12+9 in 40 fourth-tier).

I remember thinking the same when Robbie Savage regenerated from our terrace hero to someone else's c**t.

And now his son would probably improve our team.

Time's a ruthless bastard.

Could there be some imminent excitement by the time we hit 100 pages? :conf:

Does that ‘need to balance the squad out’ line suggest some outgoings?

A bit of "what iffery" on where these mysterious offers could play based on them being equal to or better than our best players;

GK - Any goalie who can push Traf or eclipse him would certainly spell the end of Dixon.
CB - This is a tough one as both Johnstone and Aimson have improved. If a very good CB rocked up then would that mean Gethin getting pushed out to RWB to compete with Bradley? If so then Izzy could be out.
DM - This is easy as if they're a challenger to MJ then they take a free squad space.
CM - Any upgrade here would surely see Thommo going to the B team or out on loan.
AM - This is a difficult one. Lee is being used sparingly as it is so would an improved AM see Sheehan dropping down the pecking order?
FWD - If a classy striker became available then the obvious candidate to be shown the door is Kachunga.

This is all conjecture and a bit of fun on my part. The joys of transfer threads

Sounds like it TG. From Evatt's press conference yesterday:

“There is nobody that we would really say we want to leave or we want to go out on loan, but I also understand that players want game time and we can’t give it to everybody so we have to be fair.

If someone comes and knocks on my door saying: ‘I’d really like to leave, I’d like to go there,’ then we’ll look at it. If it is right for us, that’s the key, if it’s right for us, then we may allow that to happen and then look to strengthen.”
