Aye, I'd take him on a footballing level, but I wouldn't want to be using a big wedge of the budget, which I suspect he would be.

That’s fine if we use said budget to sign proven quality. But to me doesn’t look like we are or can at this stage. Those targets seem to have slipped by.
I suspect we end up with a few more loans which of course are welcome but I’d rather have signed one or two more proven the level up like Bodvarrson as an example as I think we’ve seen how the quality and experience of those can be crucial.

Twitter hive-minders seem confident it’s 18yo UCD (League of Ireland) centre-back Eric Yoro, presumably for the Bs

Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
I still find the whole idea of recruiting to a B team ludicrous and I’d love to know what impact this has on budget. These players might not be expensive but they definitely aren’t free. Why we cant just have a youth team as per usual is beyond me. Actively going out to sign more established players to start in a B team is just to me nonsensical given we have limited resources and I just don’t think it’s going to pay dividends. Signing some squad players who we think can do a job and progress sure. Signing some 17/18 year olds to fill out a youth team and hoping one or two mature well. Sure.
But I just think this half and half strategy will cost money and mean we have inadequate first team cover…unless we plug those gaps too with players ready to play at this level in a team looking for promotion.

Isn’t the justification that running a proper academy is inordinately expensive for a club in our position? The B team will effectively be a youth side, but without the overheads of an academy, and (in theory) giving the young players a more varied and challenging level of competition.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 10:27 amI still find the whole idea of recruiting to a B team ludicrous and I’d love to know what impact this has on budget. We still have an academy. This is the in between bit isn’t it? It’s instead of an U23 side who might be made up of academy graduates, younger first team squad fringers and one or two more experienced first team squad floaters.The_Gun wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 11:15 amIsn’t the justification that running a proper academy is inordinately expensive for a club in our position? I don’t necessarily have a problem with building a B team over time with a careful plucking of the best 17/18/19 year old talent we can find. But just throwing one together in a summer with a motley crew of rejects seems to be an expensive way of doing things. I get they aren’t costing the earth but there is still a cost.
It also makes less sense given squad restrictions especially if any are old enough to count against that total as you can’t even promote them if your first team squad is full or you don’t want to use a space.
Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
It's true that aren't free, but an actual under 23s wouldn't be either. You can't really recruit just the 2/3 you want, because how are they going to play, and they've said before they thought it was hindering the 18s development making them play twice a week, once getting battered.
Not sure we'll see a huge impact this year, but last year when Johnstone and Delf were turning out in midfield, it would've been nice to have a specialist get a chance. Without seeing the budgets and extra cost we can't really know how expensive it is. I'm happy to trust them.

None of them are. The eldest so far, Connor Stanley (ex-Rag forward, in 1st-team squad today vs Watford) was born Dec 30th 2001; two days younger and he’d have been under the limit for 2023/24, too - as all the other signings are.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 11:38 amIt also makes less sense given squad restrictions especially if any are old enough to count against that total as you can’t even promote them if your first team squad is full or you don’t want to use a space.

He was photographed at the stadium with a club scarf around his neck earlier today so I think we can probably consider him as good as signed.
I await the obligatory Brommers video.

In other, probably expected news, Evatt has confirmed Darcy has left the club.

We have a B team but showing Darcy the door…it makes zero sense to me….nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:56 pmIn other, probably expected news, Evatt has confirmed Darcy has left the club.

I suppose he might've wanted to leave. He's certainly prioritised finding first-team football ahead of reserve team football over the last year or so.
I do think it's a shame, though. He might never have made it with us, and I never felt Evatt had a high opinion of his playing ability, but towards the end of Hill's tenure I thought he was really beginning to impose himself on the pitch. He had a very good first touch and close control, and I also liked his movement and willingness to show for it when others were less keen.
Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
He’s overage now, so would take up a squad space, and Evatt clearly doesn’t think he’s good enough for our first team. Makes complete sense.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:21 pmWe have a B team but showing Darcy the door…it makes zero sense to me….nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:56 pmIn other, probably expected news, Evatt has confirmed Darcy has left the club.

Was that in the post-Watford interview the Twitter admin subsequently deleted? Just wondering why they deleted it.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:56 pmIn other, probably expected news, Evatt has confirmed Darcy has left the club.

It was. The video has since been reposted with the section about Darcy curiously removed.
I'm guessing it's because Evatt mentioned the club he's signing for despite it not yet being official.
Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
Evatt said he was happy for Darcy to stay and play in the B team if he didn't get fixed up, but respected his desire to play in a first team at this point. Makes sense to me.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:21 pmWe have a B team but showing Darcy the door…it makes zero sense to me….nicholaldo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:56 pmIn other, probably expected news, Evatt has confirmed Darcy has left the club.
