It’s win win this. If he stays we crack on. If he goes we have money to strengthen in a couple of places and have Sadlier ready to step up already.

Absolutely nowt to worry about either way.
As long as the money’s right and it doesn’t drag on and cause morale issues.

List of potential upper-division attacking loanees drawn up by Ilesy's junior sidekick Dan Barnes.

If the moneys not right we won’t sell him.

Dragging on is always a problem but we sold Curcic on the eve of the season and still broke records.

I think personally he will still be here but if he goes it’s potentially, potentially a good thing in that it allows us to strengthen more evenly.

He couldn’t even always get in the team towards the end so I’m more than confident whatever happens it will be for the best.

Siri, find me a right-sided centre-back who's dominant in both boxes, scored nine goals last season, is above-average at progressive runs with the ball, and is out of contract

That's piffle Insaney. Sorry, but the team was picked horses for courses, (and possible not to risk injury once our die was cast). To even indicate he wasn't up to scratch , as I say, piffle.

Horsfall isn't the only Northampton player worth having. A few of their lads will get picked off in the summer.

I’m not suggesting he’s not up to scratch did you even read the post? I am suggesting that if he goes it offers us money to strengthen and that whilst he’s obviously a player we’d rather keep he wasn’t so essential as to be undroppable.

Losing a 30 goal man when nobody else broke double figures is well, hard.

Losing Dapo would not be ideal but then we’d have money to replace him and already a lot of quality in those areas as it is….

Adequately. You passed an opinion, I disagreed.

And the opinion was that it’s best he stays. But if he goes it’s not the end of the world as we have a lot of quality up there and would have money to add…

Yet apparently that means he’s not up to scratch?

The latest link is Lee Molyneux. His numbers are unimpressive, but you'll have to take my word on it that he's a proper player. Loads he needs to work on off the ball - his pressing etc - and in terms of his fitness. He's a rough diamond, but he's definitely a diamond.

He's a sort of lower leagues Grealish but with less flair. Holds possession in wide positions, rolls players, wand of a left foot and clever with his use of the ball.

As I say, really rough; but with the right attitude and coaches he could play in the Championship.

Had a really good season with Pools so I did wonder whether there might be interest from us.

I was thinking whether he could play CAM in a 3-4-1-2 but apparently he hasn’t done that well when played there, much better on the right wing cutting onto his left foot apparently.

Just a question of whether we have the squad space to accommodate a player who fits only one system, or the coaches see him as also able to play at CAM.

Quick dip into Luke Molyneux:

Out of contract. Just turned 24 (29/3/98). 5ft11 winger came through Sunderland’s academy, released age 21, switched down the coast to Hartlepool.

2021/22: Player’s Player of the Year, Fans’ Player of the Year, Goal of the Season. 8 goals in 43 league games; 12 in 55 games all told. 3 assists in the Papa John’s but, intriguingly, none in the league.

Left-footed but sounds like he can play across the three of a 4-2-3-1. Think he’s been playing off the right recently - the Inverse Dapo.

Was interesting Pompey, although they’re said to have cooled off lately. Has also been linked with Derby, Barnsley and Hearts.

I coulda sworn we were trying to be a "data driven operation" :-)

If you dive fully into the data he's impressive there too, but the public-facing stuff isn't going to wow anyone.

Is he the next Alan Thompson?

Good enough for me. Apols, I thought you said he wasn't very impressive when you look at the public facing stuff - my bad. :-)

Ha.

On the data stuff I'm going entirely off conversations I had yesterday with folk who are in better positions to know than am I.

Though the fact I kept calling him "Lee" could mean they were telling me about a totally different player.

My own opinion is from having watched him a couple of times this season, rather than his stats.

I did wonder why we were looking at someone the wrong side of 30 at Bala Town.
