2021/22 Season. The best & worst.

Post by Harry Genshaw » Thu May 05, 2022 4:20 pm

Footy and life moves on at a ridiculous pace. Already the speculation for who may be coming and going has started and it would be easy to forget what, for me at least, has been one of the most enjoyable season's in years. So what stood out for you and what are you happy to forget about this season?

Best player, best goal, best game, best moment?

Worst moments?

Player of the season is Santos, but "best player" has to go to Dapo.
Best goal - the Charles tackle....mostly for the little jump of "I'm trying" the keeper did.
Best Game - 6-0 vs Sunderland.
Best Moment - Baka's equaliser at Morecambe. Because racists can feck off.

Worst moment - Getting humped to death by Wigan.

Player of the season - Jones for me. Santos wasn't brill in my book, early doors.
Goal - lots of candidates...Charles v Fleetwood. As flukie as you might call it, it looked to me like he was trying to lob the keeper in the tackle (without much hope of it coming off)
Game - Sunnerland
Moment - Beating Ipswich (a) - was probably about the time I was starting to get more convinced we could stay up.
Worst - Shipping 5 to non-League Stockport, after twice having a 2 goal lead.

Best player: Dapo for that first half of the season
Best goal: Dion Charles' tackle. Wow.
Best game: 6-0 Sunderland
Best moment: Morecambe equaliser, in that one instant it showed all the right things about our club.

Worst moment: 5-3 over Stockport.
The farce of the situation that was Sarcevic made it that much worse. I know they've gone on to be a good side and all but to go out the way we did was embarrassing. The Wigan result was what you'd expect against a team at the top of the league vs a team newly promoted, just stings that its Wigan.

I'll give a special mention for the Hartlepool result. Given how well we'd played throughout the season in parts it looked a genuine possibility that we could get to a cup final. Hartlepool were there for the taking and we were by far the better side only for Crellin to gift the opposition a goal. Granted the results not only down to him, worth noting the abject performance by the likes of Delfouneso and the lack of midfielders that led to him being picked in the first place. I'm hoping that its a competition we won't qualify for in the coming future so to miss out on making a good go of it just seemed a massive shame.

Worst player of the season: Sarcevic. For our captain to have that much of a fall from grace is quite the disgrace for the club. You would hope that better heads would've prevailed and Sarce left with dignity and a question mark over what actually happened, as it stands he's just made it worse.

Player of the season has to be Dapo for me. One of our most exciting players in years. Even on his off days he can suddenly make something from nothing.

Best moments. I've a few of these. Wimbledon and Lincoln away. Back at the match, meeting old friends again, enjoying a beer or two and us playing exciting attacking football.
The 5-2 win at Ipswich. The team and the fans really cemented a bond that day that still endures. Support for Kachunga who had been racially abused that week, the team celebrating the 4th & 5th goals with the travelling fans after another free flowing, attacking performance.

Worst moments- Wigan at home immediately followed by Plymouth away. We didn't turn up to either, biblical rain throughout the latter with an embarrassing 3rd goal conceded, then driving home a couple of days later to hear rumours our captain was leaving for a non league side.

Best goal - Morleys at Gillingham. A beautiful strike at the end of a good move and at a time when it still felt possible we could make the play offs.

On the bbc tele as well - pretty much the only bwfc game mates have seen - so no-one still believes me that we’ve turned the corner

Still annoyed that the shot count in the Stockport home game was 16-3 and we managed to concede two.

Yep - lost Sheehan for the season and Bakayoko for a long spell in the replay.

All looks top professional shown like that, well done D.S.B. I'll take Charles against Shrewsbury best goal, Baka and Dapo for class, but Jon's the Dadi. :oyea:
