Quite the game we're having here. Hopefully a sign of things to come for the season.

A bit different to last year when we were 1-0 down until the 70th minute

Full time and 9-0. Probably the difference this year is having a settled team.

Bit surprised Dapo, Dion, Baka and Dadbod weren't subbed. Seems a bit like a sledge-hammer to crack a walnut. But hey, as you mean to go on...

They only played the second half Tango except for Baka who only played the first.

Would have to agree with you there. Additional players have been brought in complimenting the system as Iredale and Bradley look like they're going to slot right in.
Step up in quality from the looks of it too. Last years squad featured a number of youth players which are now being swapped out with seasoned pros.
1st: Dixon, Jones, Aimson, Johnston, Gordon, Thomason, Sheehan, Sarcevic, Isgrove, Doyle, Delfouneso
2nd: Alexander, Brockbank, Santos, Senior, John, Williams, Lee, Darcy, Amaechi, Bakayoko, Afolayan
Feels like most of the starting lineup have a decent number of matches under their belt.
1st: Dixon, Aimson, Santos, Iredale, Sadlier, Tutte, Dempsey, Lee, Conway, Bakayoko, Kachunga (subs: Pettifer, Tweedley, Toure, Stanley, Hutchinson)
2nd: Trafford, Bradley, Jones, Senior, Johnston, John, Morley, Thomason, Afolayan, Charles, Bodvarsson

Well I mean yes, if you arbitrarily "take out" 1/3 of the options then...we look short.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:23 pmTake MJ out and we have no physical presence. Take Dempsey out and we are ridiculously lightweight in there. If we want to go up we need at least one more in there. One injury at it looks light.
As do both wing back positions.
Thomason bless him isn’t a player you want to rely on for a team going for promotion out of league one.
Your midfield options are Lee and Morley and Sheehan who won’t be fit for the start.
Midfield and wing backs are the players with biggest running load. Most likely to miss games or need rest. We are light in both areas in my view.
"Add in" MJ and Dempsey, and Dapo who Evatt clearly sees as a midfielder in this shape not a forward and we've got 6 for 3 spots plus Thomason which feels right numbers wise to me.
I'd still like one because I think we can improve there, but if not then in this shape we've got enough.

My point is that I don’t fancy a midfield of Dapo, Sheehan and Morley in games against whoever this years Wigan and Rotherham are.Prufrock wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 1:37 amWell I mean yes, if you arbitrarily "take out" 1/3 of the options then...we look short.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:23 pmTake MJ out and we have no physical presence. So we need another one as a priority. Someone who can do the physical midfield job. Even pure numbers wise we have many number 10’s maybe even enough number 8’s. But we lack the options to physically compete and I will keep saying it we need that. If Morley and Sheehan and Dempsey compete for number 8 then we need one alongside them to compete with MJ and if you want to argue it Dempsey who fills multiple roles and to my mind isn’t going to be enough against the strongest sides.

^^ My question is, do we have the options to physically compete? (Thank me later)

This is interesting. Would you say that we're essentially 'barking up the wrong tree'?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 7:21 am

No. I’d say we just need adequate balance to compete against those teams who are a bit more physical and overload midfield. Or indeed potentially against a Sheffield Wednesday who might be better at football than we are but we can hang in and fight.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 10:09 amThis is interesting. We can’t just put three ball players in every game.
