Mad that we're announcing fixtures while every other division is ongoing, but hey ho...

Wanderers can confirm their opening batch of pre-season fixtures as they build towards the 2022/23 campaign.

Boss Ian Evatt is taking his squad to Portugal for a training camp early in their preparations after reporting back for duty on 17 June.

And following their return home the Whites will play their opening friendly at Longridge Town on Tuesday, 28 June in a repeat of last summer's trip to the North West Counties League top-flight outfit.

Wanderers go to Chorley on Saturday, 2 July for their traditional pre-season game, with the Magpies planning for another season in National League North following their play-off defeat at York City last week.

The Whites then visit Oldham Athletic on Tuesday, 12 July to face John Sheridan’s side which is gearing up for a first season in the National League.

And the last of the first four fixtures released to date will see Wanderers take a side to National League North outfit Southport on Tuesday, 26 July – four days before the start of the EFL season.

Wanderers are scheduled to include one home fixture during their pre-season programme, with Evatt’s men set to play at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday, 23 July.

Venues and opposition for the Whites’ remaining pre-season games – for the first team and ‘B’ team – will follow in due course, along with admission prices and ticket details for all pre-season games.

Fixtures for the 2022/23 EFL season will be released on Thursday, 23 June.

Pre-season games (more to follow):
Tuesday 28 June – Longridge Town A (KO 7.45pm)
Saturday 2 July – Chorley A (KO 2pm)
Tuesday 12 July – Oldham Athletic (A) (KO 7.45pm)
Tuesday 26 July – Southport (A) (KO 7.30pm)

Aye, but I'm greatly booned (is that a verb? it is now) but the fact the season kicks off in July. In just over a fortnight, that'll be next month. :D

Looks like people want the Oldham fixture boycotted.

Have to say that when I saw it, I considered it a sympathy visit for an ailing club – and considering the general view of the owner, I can understand why many would want it stopped.

Put so baldly as to possibly be an unfair comparison, imagine if say Everton had agreed to a friendly at the UniBol when we were campaigning against Ken.

I suspect that hypothetical fixture would've garnered mixed opinions. On one side we would've been happy for the match and on the other hand the funds were likely to end up in Ken's pockets.

I think with the case of this Oldham friendly there is the possibility that it could aid their owner or the club. Doing nothing would presumably leave them in greater turmoil than they are already in. At least this way there is a slim chance of it going to the club.

I think I'll see what the general consensus is in Oldham before deciding whether to go or not. There were several groups calling for a boycott of their league games this season gone and several who claimed it was counterproductive.

We really shouldn’t be going anywhere near Oldham and I’m a bit disappointed in the club arranging that. I know there is a practical element too in that you need to have friendlies arranged and will always want some local ones. But considering the current situation at that club it seems a poor choice. And I feel desperately sorry for Oldham fans. They were a premiership club and all that. It’s a disgrace really.

Theres a Portugal trip in there at some point. Presumably somewhere around that 3rd - 12th July period.

Ah yeah, good point mate.

Also unclear to what extent the B team will be involved in these fixtures - we've always had pre-season schedules in which the first teams and the "XIs" are gradually separated, but the influx of new faces will confuse that a little. And so it should - some who we sign for the Bs might well prove themselves worthy of consideration for instant elevation. As a great man once said, the door to the first team is open to anyone.

Looks like the Portugal trip will be pretty much the first thing they do in terms of pre-season activities.

Edit: of course it will, just realised the season starts on the 30th July 😅

Stockport is an odd choice - we lost several players to long term injury against them last season and that fat prick won’t exactly be pulling out of challenges!

I suspect that may have come about out of mutual business ties earlier in the year. Letting Sarcevic go from his contract without too much fuss probably bode well for a working relationship between the two clubs. Given what happened subsequently I suspect that its behind closed doors to stop any fan animosity. This is the sort of match that as a pre-season game would have plenty of interest.
