Trotters v Charlton - Time for the Sorting Hat - (H) 15:00 3rd Sept

Post by Worthy4England » Fri Sep 02, 2022 1:37 pm

I've been a bit mystified so far, in some of our team selections. Not in an "Evatt out" sorta sense, but more confusion, maybe on my part, on why we aren't starting our strongest XI, which in part was answered by IE with a "we don't have a first XI" typem comment.

Big Rick, looks in need of the New Santos coat of varnish, that usually arrives about Christmas and we've misfired up front, a little too often..Dapo has struggled to hit top gear, but I'm not sure he's in the right box and Sadlier is getting "run a minute off the clock" levels of gametime. Sheehan came through pretty well on Tuesday (not aware of any post match angst), and at LWB, we seem a bit torn between a rock, a hard place, John, Iredale and young new shiny thing.

I think I'd go with...

Traff
Aimson
Santos
Johnston
Bradley
Iredale
MJ
Dempsey
Morley
Dapo
Charles

But it still feels like some not quite round pegs in round holes...

Crucial game - vital we win to get back on track and build confidence.

I’d go with..

Trafford
Jones
Santos
Iredale
Bradley
Beck
MJ
Lee
Morley
Dapo
Charles

Probably for me our strongest fit 11.

It’s harsh on Johnston and there is an argument for him ahead of Jones albeit he’d be on his weaker foot but still. I could see that. The rest for me is our best 11 we have on the assumption Beck is a decent wing back which by all accounts is the case.

How athletic are Charlton and how fit and ready are we? Any news on Jon Bod?

Was said "about two weeks" so might be a game too early...

Not convinced Evatt will drop a 20 year old, who's been with us 2 days and probably had little content download, straight in, but you never know...

Still leaves a rather impressive bench especially when Jon Bod is fit. Sanctifies Evatt's buying hesitation some.

Maybe. He might not. Wouldn’t blame him either way.

Of course, maybe, just doesn't seem to be how Evatt operates. Of course John might still be injured, but I think he might play Iredale LW/B

From his pre-match, John and Dad Bod probably no. Sheehan probably not starting and Beck went from probably not match fit at the start of the interview to we'll monitor and see where he's at to see if he's included in the squad, by the end of the interview...

Don't forget to separate your "What I'd go with" and "What I think he'll go with" XIs

Often very different

I'd guess it's much more likely Iredale starts at LWB and Beck comes off the bench tomorrow.

I think I'd go with the same XI as Worthy. The selection dilemmas for me would be between Dempsey and Lee, and Jones and Aimson. Wouldn't be disappointed to see any of the four in the side.

Not overly confident after the Plymouth game, but if (big if) we play to our potential then we should win.

This is important.

I'd play: Trafford, Jones, Santos, Iredale, Bradley, Williams, Morley, Beck, Sadlier, Charles, Kachunga.

I don't think Evatt will.

I think Insane is right about the importance of the game.

On the importance of the game, and slightly associated, Evatt said something along the lines of, if we're in the top 10 at end of Sept we'll be in a decent place...not quite the march to the Champions League some m8ght be expecting. It brings in the possibility that we might not be in the top 10 and whilst I think IE's had pre Christmas leeway whilst we assembles a baseline squad, I'm not sure he'll get it every season, forever.

I think Charles will be goal hungry H.D. He's my best bet prediction to score. :oyea:

2 assists off the bench vs Crewe, wasn't it?

It was, but it's not his ability to contribute against opposition from a lower league that's in doubt.

I think I tend to agree with that. However, I also think we've seen a lot of lax displays from lads this season and, purely personally, I'd put Kachunga out because I don't think he's one of them. I'd personally (mostly) put an 11 out that has earnt the start through application, to make a point.

I'm happy for other people to disagree with that approach and I don't anticipate it being what Evatt will do, but it would be my view of it.
