FA Cup 22/23.

Post by Bruce Rioja » Mon Oct 17, 2022 6:31 pm

I love the early rounds of the FA Cup, me; it's where the 'magic' takes place before the inevitable turgid procession sets in and we trudge towards two from the big six in a forgettable final.
I love the non-league clubs getting a hard earned afternoon in the limelight. Players with names like Bob Mitchell and Ged Horrocks who've had to finish work early to be able to play. I love it.

Anyway, the draw for this season's First Round 'Proper' takes place this evening on BBC2 at 19:00.
We're ball number 5.

For us, I'd like little more than for us to reach the 3rd round and draw a biggie 😊

Agree. Early rounds are absolutely brilliant. The cup has lost its magic apart from up to and including round 3. After that as you say it’s a complete nothing burger.

I’d absolutely love a cup run. Draw a big team at some point ideally away.

If you could have picked any draw you don’t want…it’s probably Barnsley at home. Maybe that’s moderately better than Pompey away but still….,

To win the FA Cup, we have to beat teams like Barnsley!

I always feel really sorry for the non-leaguers who've worked so hard to get this far, only to get drawn against a similar outfit. The irony being that they'd have loved a game either at our place or at Oakwell.

Crap draw for both us and Barnsley.

Would've loved a non-league or lower league side. Someone we hadn't played yet.

Trouble is, you'd probably cheer them on and want them to win..I always think of Yeovil at this time.

We get em every year in pre season friendlies. Usually lose a few too.

I just want one of us or Charlton to get to round 4.

Don't mind the friendlies. The more we play a team the less of a novelty it becomes. When we had the option for a novelty draw and instead get a team weve just played out a 0-0 draw with it hardly gets you on the edge of the seat.

I did look to see when our last preseason friendly against them was. Seems quite a way away since.

It hadn't occurred to me that this season marks the centenary anniversary of the White Horse final.
