Tyler Smith (another who we were linked with) gone to Oxford on loan. Good pick-up.

Hope he’s a good un! Might be straight in the team given Johnston will be out at the weekend. Not sure which wing back I’d pair him with mind?

It's a very Peterborough signing. Might work, might not. They calculate their risks.
They've basically traded him for Jack Marriott, who wasn't working. They've saved a load on wages, got the better of the fees and will be very happy. As ever, great work.

Even if he underperforms they are better off.

Probably John, as I wouldn't think two newbies on that side in Mbete and Randy would be a good thing.

You never know, he's keen to throw them in. But my money would be on Jones-Santos-Toal as the three.

We 100% needed one CB, glad we've got them. I'm worried that being a leftie suggests Johnstone is out for a while which still leaves us with Geth covering about 4 positions.

We are where we are, but we're going to need to be lucky with injuries.

So, assuming that's us done for this window (both ins and outs), how do we all feel about it?

By my reckoning, I think it leaves us with:

IN - Jerome, Adeboyejo, Shoretire, Mbete, Williams, Nlundulu
OUT - Sadlier, Aimson, Bakayoko, Dapo (plus Bod's injury I guess)

And if we're counting Bod as an "out" due to injury, then I guess we could also count Santos and Isgrove as "INs" as they returned from lay offs? Plus the potential re-integration of John into the playing squad. I suppose we could also add in another OUT if GJ's injury is serious?

Still, my take on it - all considered - is that its been a strong window. Not necessarily as game-chantgingly strong as the last 2 January's, but not bad all the same. And lets be honest, we can't keep on expecting to constantly better previous windows every time.

I know its not as simple as this, but broadly:

- Nlundulu should be an upgrade on Baka
- Shoretire replacing Dapo, whilst not necessarily being an upgrade, is hopefully a better fit overall into our formation, and Dapo wasn't playing much in any case
- Jerome adds some nous and experience and leadership, plus hopefully some goals (and could be cover for Bod's injury)
- Odabayejo then hopefully sits in as the additional firepower we were after (and should be an upgrade on Sadlier from a forward point of view)
- Williams covers Iredale
- Mbete coveres GJ

As I said, the above don't necessarily directly fit/replace/cover their incumbents, but I would - on balance - say we've strengthened a bit, and not weakened at all.....

We're having a superb window. Both in terms of quality and the ability to execute Evatt's tactics.

We've a horrible run of away fixtures, so people who want to may have a chance to moan about some results; but the squad is better.

An injury in midfield could be a real ball-ache, but we've the numbers in there.

Given that the last bit was done on the fly, I'm very happy.

Iles has a couple of B team (loans?) out and that's it.

Much, much quieter than I was anticipating, but the player we did get is a great signing.

All the traits we look for, CL experience, lefty...what more can you ask?

Paying 25 professionals. 23 (hopefully) players for the rest of the season. Sensible stuff.

I think we are ok if Johnston and Shola are minor or very short term. If either are out for a month or more we are still pretty short. But it is what it is. I’d like us to be stronger in those areas but there is a limit to what can be done.

In a perfect world we'd have sorted 3 more players and a couple would have left. If we're talking about pushing to try and go up automatically.

For a League One squad on a very tight budget, this is pretty impressive as things stand.

You suspect that if Dad Bod hadn't got an injury we'd have maybe spent the Jerome money on another department. Also if Iredale wasn't injured we'd currently be very solidly stocked at the back - though maybe then John wouldn't be back in the fold?

All in all, let's go. We can work with this.

Just as an aside, have we ever had a window before where every signing we've made above average had pace?

We seem to have really aimed at stepping up that aspect of our play.

A Very important ingredient to playing successfully in the leagues above. Our leadership seem to know what they are doing strategically. We are in good hands.

Ali Gold, the Spurs journalist, is saying there were some issues on Sunday with some at Tottenham wanting Devine to remain in the U21s/U23s for the next few months over UEFA eligibility issues. That may have put the brakes on anything regardless of whether we pivoted first or not. Possibly dodged something there, if we did pivot first rather than react to that. Devine will remain in the Spurs set up until next summer, when a loan move is likely.

Aren't we at our loan limit now?

Oh, he's not coming here regardless now, obviously; but in terms of how things went and whether we might go back there in the summer. If he had been a key target for us, we still might not have got him. Senior staff overruling the youth staff, by the looks of it.

Like Accy fans and Traf, then.

I mean of course, if they have rave reviews, no harm done.

I was, of course, being somewhat facetious. Being light in those areas won't be a total disaster in terms of potentially falling out the playoffs IMO, it just means there is more work to do in summer.

Owen Coyle teams were hardly the bastion of defensive solidity!
