WANDERERS captain Ricardo Santos is currently in hospital with breathing problems, Ian Evatt has revealed tonight.

The defender was rushed to a local hospital yesterday after contracting a virus.

It is understood that he has shown signs of improvement today and that he has swapped messages with his team-mates after they grabbed a 94th minute equaliser against Bristol Rovers.

Evatt said the news of his illness had taken the whole group back.

“That has rocked us all. Rico was hospitalised yesterday with a really bad viral infection and some pneumonia as well. He has had a really difficult time with breathing,” he said.

“It happened so quickly that is rocked us all and worried us.

“He is our captain and our leader and we miss him immensely but we will rally around him, rally around his wonderful family and do everything we can to make sure he makes a speedy recovery.””

Fingers crossed he is on the mend.

Relax and get well Ricardo. Think of nothing else right now. Health is the most important feature in our lives. I'm sure every last Bolton supporter is thinking of you.

There are some bad things going round. You don’t imagine a footballer being so badly struck down by them though.

Horrible stuff. Get well soon Ricardo.

Latest report says he has taken positive steps on his road to recovery, good news.

I can't imagine he will be playing until well into the new year, big chance for Toal

Aye - all sounds positive, hope he has a quiet Christmas with the family. I haven’t seen any confirmation but I think his daughter is on the road to recovery as well.
