Oops, typo, meant League One. Changed.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:19 pmWe won't be in league 2!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 1:55 pmToo old and infirm for Wembley, but I'll be watching on the box and there in spirit as ever. Meanwhile, more urgent business to be attended to. Time to be thinking , "Regardless of a result", what happens next? Saturday is as important, maybe more-so, than even the trip to the Capital because if we're still in League One at season end, what price silverware? I'm thinking as the club's future.
But yes, Saturday's a biggie. A massive game.

We're snowed in up here, so I doubt I'll make the game. How are conditions locally?

No real issues. Snowing on and off but not sticking. Course, there's a day and a half to go yet...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 6:18 pmWe're snowed in up here, so I doubt I'll make the game. How are conditions locally?

You might be better ordering 2 sets of skis on next day delivery...

Have skis. Also snow shoes. Both have come up in conversation.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 9:02 amYou might be better ordering 2 sets of skis on next day delivery...
He has genuinely suggested we snow shoe to the train station and stay at the hotel tonight. I've had to point out it's not deep enough for snow shows and not the right snow for skis.
"Do you really want to walk 5 miles in this and risk still not being able to get there?"
Yes. Yes he does.
He's given up digging to the main road (1.5 miles) and is now sulking about me rejecting all his "workable" ideas.
Technically we *could* make it, but not in a way that's safe for a kid. He's not happy about the idea of putting his safety before football.
He's already a better fan than I am, it seems.

At age 25 I’d have walked to a train station.
Now? Zero chance. You can find a stream surely….

Should be gone next week, hopefully. We're going to Hillsborough, or supposed to be. He'll be upset to miss that one if we get more snow.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 9:59 amI hope it melts before Wembley.

He's 10, so he's too young for us to walk distances in sub-zero temps. Making him understand that is trickier.

Blimey Ghost, is that a garden or a forest?
Snow is quite light here but it's a real frosty Friday with temp at freezing point. Hope any pitch worries disappeared with big Sam, but crowd numbers may take a hit especially with police advising only drive if it's absolutely necessary. Tough shout on those who drive for a living, especially the self-employed and sympathies with the away fans.(and all those little birds, spare a crust or two for them)
Tractors are usually good in rough weather, but let's hope we can cause a few breakdowns and a splutter or two on the pitch. Both sets will be needing gloves and scarves; Winter Hill didn't get its name for fun. I reckon football country-wide may suffer badly. Meanwhile..COME ON YOU SNOW WHITES..!

Yeah, we're very lucky to be on 6 acres here.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 10:23 amBlimey Ghost, is that a garden or a forest?

We just saw a tractor ploughing the lane down towards the main road. I think because we've got an elderly chap here who needs access to the hospital every week. As you say, though, they've asked people not to drive; so as doable as it now might be I'll leave it. If we got into bother going to the footy then we're just wasting the time of emergency crews who will be busy enough.

Yeah no way should you be attempting anything. Looking at state of roads and trains in some places it would be a waste of time anyway. And definitely not with a child.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 10:06 amShould be gone next week, hopefully. We're going to Hillsborough, or supposed to be. It’s disappointing but I think we will get beat tomorrow anyway and there will be the silver lining!

The pubs are doable for adults even in this weather. One mile over the hill to one, 3 miles across the moor to the better one (or the same to the village, which has two more). Nearest shop is only a mile. It's in the old lambing shed of a local farm. They sell everything from engine oil to sausages from their own pigs. The legend on the sign is "Sells owt tha wants." If anyone develops a severe thirst it's an easy walk. Woman who runs it is in her mid 80s now, so the worry is it might close when she either dies or gets too old to work it. No sign of her slowing down yet, mind you.

Tough lead into the final. Playing the top 3 in the next 3 games is literally the make or break of our season. Come out of this with a decent record and it's likely this season will end on a good note. The flip side of that is we could be scrambling outside of the playoffs.
But thankfully we're not the only ones with a tough run. Barnsley have the following fixtures: Plymouth, Wycombe, Sheffield Wednesday and then Ipswich. So there's a good chance that Barnsley's good run will come to an end, or that they'll be pushing for the top 2.

Pretty confident for this one, recent performances have been awful but Ipswich played mid week which is a huge advantage for us, plus we're at home, we're so much better at home. Vik and Jerome added to the squad too, lots of positives. It wont happen but I'd love to see a midfield trio of Morley, Dempsey and Thomason in the attacking midfielder role, I just get the feeling he'd be brilliant there.
