Perhaps not the thread for this, but the EFL has confirmed/published its rule changes including anti-timewasting measures:

Do we play Burton on a Tuesday night at any stage this season? We'll still be playing on Wednesday morning.

Probably best just to book the week off work...

It feels like we always play them on a Tuesday night for some reason.

The away fixture is a Saturday afternoon at the end of August.

We play them at home on New Year's Day. If we're lucky, that game might be over by 2025.

Reason is we usually do.

We've played them nine times and five have been on Tuesdays - including the last three, four out of the last five, and the first one.

Of the other four, two have also been on non-weekends - although to be fair one was a New Year's Day (afternoon kickoff).

Then again, the two Saturdays (out of nine - surely some sort of statistical record) were absolutely horrendous - a limp 0-1 at home in December and, in a dreadful season's penultimate game, a horrifying abdication of attacking intent which would have deservedly relegated us but for Wilbraham, other teams' failings and sheer dumb luck.

TUE 11 Aug 2015 Bolton Wanderers v Burton Albion L 0-1 League Cup
SAT 16 Dec 2017 Bolton Wanderers v Burton Albion L 0-1 League Championship
SAT 28 Apr 2018 Burton Albion v Bolton Wanderers L 2-0 League Championship
WED 01 Jan 2020 Bolton Wanderers v Burton Albion L 3-4 League One
TUE 10 Mar 2020 Burton Albion v Bolton Wanderers D 2-2 League One
MON 06 Sep 2021 Bolton Wanderers v Burton Albion D 0-0 League One
TUE 15 Feb 2022 Burton Albion v Bolton Wanderers L 3-1 League One
TUE 25 Oct 2022 Bolton Wanderers v Burton Albion W 2-1 League One

What a truly depressing record against a team who were non-league as recently as 2009 and have substitutions sponsored by Burton doggy day care…

Those results probably don't help due to distance travelled and midweek. Especially difficult when we've had bad ownership thrown in the mix.

Burton were riding on the crest of a wave we were on the slide. Now it seems that slide has been arrested and the expected picture should come to fruition. Should we get over the whole cursed mentality there.

As for the preseason, are we ahead of where we expected to be?

Notable injuries to Bod, Johnston, Toal, etc paint a negative light on the situation so I'm not sure what to fully make of it

Interesting game against WBA. Defensive solidity seems to have gone out the window after impressing against Everton.

Not sure if WBA's 2nd was offside or not. Hard to tell.

Baxter looking decent and dodgy in equal measure. Better to punt it in some instances. Still, we needed to become a bigger threat and we seem to have done that.

Any standouts Mar? I’d forgotten it was on!

Right 4-3, all goals are belters!

There was a strike by Victor that I think maybe hurt the keepers hand. Absolute rocket.

I am not being sarcastic btw.

Bizarre. At half time I was bemoaning the same problems; players afraid to shoot, trying to walk it in, slow in movement but quick to waste free kicks in dangerous areas BUT

4 absolutely outstanding goals, against championship opposition, one or two excellent performances, what's not to like?

Well, surely all but the most pessimistic on here (you know who you are....) would say that's anything other than a pretty good pre-season eh?

Don't think we've lost, we've kicked on in each successive game, beating a Championship and holding our won against a Premier League team.

Plenty of quality and plenty of goals scored.

Not too many negatives - injury to GJ aside. Although I'm glad Baxter got his pass straight to the opposition for them to pass it into the net out of the way before the season proper starts.

All new signings look to be decent, and retained players seem to have pushed on a bit.

Overall, I'm pretty damn pleased!!!

Agree with much of this. There'll be things about today that Evatt won't be happy with - loose passes in our own half, more profligacy from our strikers, though Adeboyejo seemed quite sharp - but overall, I think we're looking pretty good.

That was fun.

We will see errors at the back as we adjust to this tweaked system. It was obviously going to happen.

What matters is that we saw an awful error that led to a goal and the keeper just got on with it like it never happened.

You need mental resilience to play this way and Baxter showed it today. In fact they all did. They all made errors in playing out, but they just kept at it. The more they do it the quicker the ball will flow between them and harder they will be to press.

Evatt said he wanted players who could play his football and we are adding them.

Nice to see Vic getting praise on social media.

All the lads (especially Ashworth) will have learnt a lot today and we'll be better next Saturday for having been found wanting at times this afternoon.
