Canon League Division Three. Finishing 17th on the way through in a downward direction - it was the sixth of what turned out to be eight successive seasons finishing lower than the previous one, a run that took us from the top flight to the bottom.

That’s the world I came into, ao maybe it set my expectations. Add that the wider football season ended in lethal disaster in a crumbling ground and you get the scene.

We were in League Division 1 (old money) about to embark on a brief 2 season stint before spiralling downwards. I'd love to see Alan Gowlings goal again from that seasons opener. It was on MotD but sadly lost or wiped over I believe.
