Know absolutely zilch about this club except they got promoted, so the thread's a blank space from me. Over to those in the know. At it.. :Jedi:

Not much to know really, aside from the fact we've got a 100% record against them.

Has the potential to be the most frustrating game of the season this. Stevenage are the most direct side in the division and typically of a Steve Evans side, they’ll have a clear plan to slow the game down and antagonise us with plenty of gamesmanship.

Any win will do.

Going to be interesting to see who starts with Toal and GT being back in contention.

I'd imagine Coleman may vacate that bench role in order to keep Matheson or Khumbeni in the picture.

In terms of first team pics I'd imagine that GT is the obvious choice to come back into the squad. Toal less so but given its midweek there's a decent chance of rotation despite the clean sheet.

There's also the possibility that Vic is back but I'm sceptical of that one. If so, potentially have him playing off the bench.

Toal played Saturday and was man of the match……

Baxter

Forrester Toal Iredale

Thomason Sheehan

JDC Dempsey Williams

Charles Nlundulu

Bench: Coleman, Ashworth, Matheson, Morley, JDB, Khumbeni, Jerome

The question mark would be whether Dempsey is able to go again with the short turnaround, and if he's not I'd play Morley in the more advanced role.

2-1 Bolton

Yeah I think that’s what I’d pick. Dempsey can come on if we need extra energy and impetus. Otherwise rest his back up.

The only other slight question mark is whether Bod might start with Charles as at home his clever play might be more useful to unlock Stevenage than Nlundulu as an outlet which worked better away from home maybe,,,

Howdy guys, might have a way of getting the couch out later, if people are finding the cost of living too much and would like to watch then I *might be able to fluff the virtual pillows, if you know what I mean.

*dependent on it actually working and if I remember.

Couch very welcome, thank you.

I can see the appeal of starting the canny JDB over Dan, not least as it means we'd be bringing on a substitute born after the start of the Premier League/Champions League era and the abolition of the backpass.

I picked Dan because he did a good job on Saturday, but thinking about it, I do agree that playing JDB with Charles is going to be something we need to try soonish (fitness permitting). Jon and Dion are potentially better foils for each other than any of our other possible striker combinations.

I'd pick Dempsey if he's fit, but the above is what I think it will be, not what I want it to be

Yeah same. It’s only his back that would keep him out tonight. Otherwise he’s in and it’s Sheehan and Thomason or Morley and Thomason.

Although these things don't always work out thusly, you would imagine tonight's opponents (3rd, league away results WWLWW) would be tougher than Saturday's (19th, league away results LLDDL).

As a result, I'd be hoping to get at least an hour out of Dempsey tonight, even if it effectively forces him out of Saturday's line-up.

But that rather depends on the sports-science bpds and their red-zone monitoring.

Also worth noting that his injury is a back problem so it could go in the 1st minute as much as the 90th.

Purely on instinct I'd start JonBod with Charles up front. A couple of early goals (three better still) . Even winning our game in hand (Oxford have one too) will only keep us in touch with the fore-runners. Stevenage won't want to lose their early momentum so it won't be an easy game. Forget possession stats, get in front early and stay there. :oyea:

It depends on what recovery is like. Also Carlisle are bringing a huge following and it’s their big day out, whilst on paper Stevenage are a bigger challenge, I don’t know if it will work like that necessarily.

Gotta beat what's in front of you. So we start by trying to win tonight's game, methinks, with our strongest team possible. :-)

Yeah, I noticed Carlisle asked for more tickets, they'll be tricky enough. Whereas Stevenage will presumably bring two coaches – in their only other midweek away league fixture this season, they took 1,259 to Cambridge.

Then again, more fans doesn't equal better team, as Sunderland discovered for years on end. Or as Everton discovered against Luton this weekend.

I do think Saturday will be more of an 'occasion'. Tonight could be a bit weird, we'll need the fans to lift the team to go at it from the off. And hopefully get two up, early doors...
