Stoking the fires. Home to Port Vale defending our trophy...Tues, 5th Dec 7-45.

Enjoyed that. A little sloppy at times and we started the 2nd half slowly but never really any doubt that we'd win.

MotM - Josh Dacres Cogley. What a signing that lad has been.

I wonder if Dan has done his hamstring knee-sliding to celebrate the penalty that wasn’t. Cruel irony can choose the most vulnerable of victims.

Bizarre that a linesman can't see a foul under his nose in the 1st half, which the ref blew for, but can spot irrelevant encroachment 40 yards away. I thought Jerome might take it since he drew the foul and still hasn't scored for us yet?

Don’t think Jerome has ever taken penalties. Charles is the obvious taker but Sheehan is brilliant at them from what I recall. Dan obviously wanted to keep on his scoring run but he’s copped for an odd decision, albeit looked correct - there was encroachment, largely caused by his stalled run up, which is part of the risk if your team don’t know you are doing it! Ashworth was in the area when it was struck as were others I think.

Hopefully Dan wont be too disheartened by the saved penalty. He scored the first one so there's that.

It's a shame Jerome didn't take it. He did well to win the penalty.

Blackpool 2–1 Barnsley
Derby 3–0 Fleetwood
Donny 3–0 Nottingham Forest U21
Wrexham 2–3 Burton
Bradford 4–0 Liverpool U21
Accy P–P Lincoln
Wigan-Stockport tomorrow

Next round is still regionalised, but otherwise open - ie we could be home or away, and could face a team from our group (ie Stockport). So who d'you fancy? I'd rather avoid Derby and Blackpool (and Wigan).

Draw's live on Sky Sports News at 6.30pm on Friday. Games "week commencing 4 Jan" sez EFL - altho 4 Jan is a Thursday  I think it'll be Tue 9th, ie between Luton in the cup and Cheltenham at home...

Wigan or Derby for me. Get it out of the way now before the later stages.

Well, I don't think we played very well and rode our luck at times in the 1st half. Don't ever think the result was in doubt, but we looked disjointed and a bit sloppy until we changed the midfield. Dempsey stood out in the 1st half though.

More of a 2nd string than we played on Saturday, but a win is a win and we look strong and resolute. Forwards came in for some rough stuff and they stood up to it well and gave it back. Something we didn't do particularly well last season.

Bradford or Donny at home, let Wigan and Derby play each other unless Stockport beat the Pie Eaters first

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

Would quite fancy the winner of Wigan vs Stockport. We owe Wigan one and knocking Stockport out the tournament would be nice. Probably the best fixture we could get would be against Accrington Stanley. Having Accrington meet us when we're in fine form would be a nice change from the 7-1. It'd give us a good chance to set a better memory and turn that scoreline around like we did with the Stoke match after that FA cup result.

Accrington will be thrilled at the prospect…we still owe them a real stuffing.
