And that's before I assume we see the full impact of the Liverpool data-driven recruitment investment will have (which, incidentally, Liverpool-supporting mates of mine say is THE reason for Liverpool's recent resurgence....)GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 4:17 am
What this all shows though is that this lot know a player. These are intelligent, targeted bits of recruitment that fit into a proper model. Ogbeta is spot on, in terms of profile (doesn't guarantee anything, but it's still meaningful) and Collins would be another in the mould.

Apparently we’ve bid £600k for this lad but Gas are looking for £1m. Not sure I see the sense in this.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 5:46 pmFormer FGR attacking player, now of Bristol Rovers.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 5:36 pmPray tell, who is this Aaron Collins thou dost speak of?
Really clever, technical forward who can play wide,#10 or through the middle.
I wanted him when he was on a free after leaving FGR and he would absolutely smash it under Evatt. He'd have been amazing in our 4-3-3, but I'd suggest he's even more suited to this system.
Ogbeta, Paris, Collins...they've got good taste over at Wanderers

Also heard Bodvarsson might be going to Cambridge.

Bristol Rovers reject our opening bid for Aaron Collins, according to the Bristol Post

There's a rumour that Klopp missed being sent a wad a spreadsheets on Monday and from that point, it was only a matter of time.dave the minion wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 8:48 amAnd that's before I assume we see the full impact of the Liverpool data-driven recruitment investment will have (which, incidentally, Liverpool-supporting mates of mine say is THE reason for Liverpool's recent resurgence....)GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 4:17 am

That is a sharp-intake-of-breath asking price.

If Evatt is to be believed then that £600k is our valuation and we’ll now walk away. As we should.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:00 pmThat is a sharp-intake-of-breath asking price.

Was just thinking, as Ghost listed next season’s potential forward foursome - did we ever discover the trigger number for Bod to get this season’s contract extended into next? He’s already played 30 in all comps, 21 in the league…
Re: Who opened the door? My money is on Janus! 2024 January transfer thread.
A good question but I'm not sure it would actually matter if this Cambridge link is real. It's not quite worked this season and there's the chance from him to reunite with Neil Harris. He'd be first choice. A logical move and one that's good for all parties.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:08 pmWas just thinking, as Ghost listed next season’s potential forward foursome - did we ever discover the trigger number for Bod to get this season’s contract extended into next? I'd expect any bid to be accepted; of course this is dependent on how successful the pursuit is with incoming forwards.

If you believe the reporting we are still in. But I’m not sure offering our value instantly would be a good negotiating position either.The_Gun wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:01 pmIf Evatt is to be believed then that £600k is our valuation and we’ll now walk away. I dunno if he’s worth this money. Will let others judge.
But instinctive reaction when fee was mentioned is ‘ouch’.

Two recent League One players of the year are Scott Twine and Ivan Toney. They went for £4M+ each!

Let’s separate out a ‘fair fee’ from what is a good fee for us to pay in our current position.
A few days ago there was talk of Adeboyejo going and certainly on social media people were demanding several millions of pounds for him.
Vic and Aaron Collins are the same age more or less. Collins has more league goals albeit most of those the level below.
19 league one goals to Vic’s 25 though Collins scores at a slightly quicker rate than Vic.
Vic has played the level up and scored 5 in 50 up there. So factor that in.
Assists wise at this level Vic has 5, Collins 21.
I think it’s hard to make a case on the stats and situation that Collins is worth less in the market than Vic.
What that number is - I don’t know.

Also not sure (but happy to be corrected) - was Collins *the* L1 POTY, or “just” Rovers’?

Yeah. He said we don’t low-ball but there’s a difference between that and not negotiating at all. (We obviously haggle - see delays to Dempsey, Bodvarsson and Ennis deals.)BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:24 pmIf you believe the reporting we are still in. He’s under contract so it’s a seller’s market but I’d say £600k is hardly insultingly low for someone not getting in a mid-table third-tier team.

Yes, I believe he was the POTY for the division last year. Also at 26 not over the hill!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 1:22 pmAlso not sure (but happy to be corrected) - was Collins *the* L1 POTY, or “just” Rovers’?
Agree we shouldn't pay over the odds but it's not an outrageous fee being asked by Rovers imo. Whether we will pay it is another question entirely.

You’re right. And L2 POTY was Sam Hoskins, with whom we’d also been linked…jmjhb wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 1:35 pmYes, I believe he was the POTY for the division last year. He asked to be left out for them at the weekend, so they're getting their arm twisted a little bit.
You could also see some of that being conditional on is going up.
I think he's excellent, but that kind of money he's going to have to be.

Re: Who opened the door? My money is on Janus! 2024 January transfer thread.
Surely where the player is going to, counts as well? Heading from L1 to a Champo/Prem club is likely to attract a larger fee than a transfer within the same Division? I doubt each player only has one possible figure...
Re: Who opened the door? My money is on Janus! 2024 January transfer thread.
Unless Collins is replacing Vic then this comparison is pretty redundant.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 1:08 pmLet’s separate out a ‘fair fee’ from what is a good fee for us to pay in our current position.

Losing an incumbent vs adding in another peak age player to the four strikers we already have on our books are completely different conversations.
