Yon account was on the money with some contract extensions - but then said Morley had been extended, about three months before it was announced. Also didn't seem to be in the know about signings in the last window. So it could go either way...

Not sure we'd be allowed to sign an already-attached goalkeeper if we had two others (Coleman and Hutchinson) under professional contract. If Coleman were to be injured too, we might be able to plead special measures.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:17 amIs this one of those situations where we could sign a covering goalkeeper should Baxters injury turn out to be true?
Coleman obviously gets the nod in-between the sticks but he's had his injuries this season and would seem prudent to ensure cover. Maybe Hutchinson to come back into contention?
Course we could sign an unattached goalkeeper on a freebie at any time. They do exist. Whether they'd be any good at all, let alone for an Evattball team, is a huge question.

What if Coleman wasn't on the bench at the weekend due to injury?

See - that one occurred to me, too, from a perspective that I thought (but not 100% sure) we'd come to the conclusion that Thomo was the "fly keeper" but he wasn't on the bench either!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:51 amAre they butterfly hunters?

Flying netters, rush goalies, apparenyl some people call it "nearest and dearest" - all sorts of names...

I did wonder whether that would be an issue. Hutchinson had been out on loan at Marine, transfermarkt has it down as him returning to us mid Jan so he should be available but we've been using Flint in net for the B-team.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:23 amNot sure we'd be allowed to sign an already-attached goalkeeper if we had two others (Coleman and Hutchinson) under professional contract. Perhaps thats to keep Hutchinson fit and available?

I figured the "term" for them was just somewhere I didn't want to tread as flying netters wasn't one I was familiar with.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:48 amHe was tending to his card collection...Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:24 amSee - that one occurred to me, too, from a perspective that I thought (but not 100% sure) we'd come to the conclusion that Thomo was the "fly keeper" but he wasn't on the bench either!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:51 amAre they butterfly hunters?

The only free agent goalkeeper I can see who might be even halfway decent (and realistic) is Ben Garratt - he played for Burton in that 0-0 at ours when Sexy Kieran's goal was maddeningly ruled out. He's 30 in April. Came through at Crewe and made c250 appearances for them, then two years at Burton and was released last summer.
Interestingly, he seems to be with the same (rather large) agency as three of our strikers: Dion Charles, Aaron Collins and, erm, Ben Andreucci.

Wasn't it that "fly netter" was 1 designated player who was in goal but could also come out, but Rush goalies was when the nearest person to the nets could be the keeper and use hi hands?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:48 amHe was tending to his card collection...Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:24 amSee - that one occurred to me, too, from a perspective that I thought (but not 100% sure) we'd come to the conclusion that Thomo was the "fly keeper" but he wasn't on the bench either!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:51 amAre they butterfly hunters?

There's that Spanish lad knocking around who may still live locally?

Look, I love Lancashire but if a Spanish multimillionaire chooses to stick around when he doesn't need to, I admire his dedication to precipitationboltonboris wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:14 pmThere's that Spanish lad knocking around who may still live locally?

It seems to have varied regionally.dave the minion wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:12 pmWasn't it that "fly netter" was 1 designated player who was in goal but could also come out, but Rush goalies was when the nearest person to the nets could be the keeper and use hi hands?
Course, keepers are always allowed to come out. Unless it's a scratch game and the oppo have one fewer. That's well illegal.

Having to think a long time back, but (irrespective of what it was called), I think we only used it when there were imbalanced teams. We used to limit whether a keeper could leave their area when it was 4 v 5 or suchlike (which was often the case) - the team with fewer players were allowed a goalkeeper who could go anywhere, whereas the team with the most players, we used to make "stick" in their area...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:54 pmIt seems to have varied regionally.dave the minion wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:12 pmWasn't it that "fly netter" was 1 designated player who was in goal but could also come out, but Rush goalies was when the nearest person to the nets could be the keeper and use hi hands?

To some, this might sound like a blast from the past. But in last night's dads-and-lads game I was a flying netter (when the team numbers were equal) and then a stick netter (when an injury meant we had a man more). Although nobody called it that specifically.

Some shitty weather darn south at the moment moving west to east. Looks like the wind will drop off but lots of rain.

Iles reports that Baxter is at the ground. Doesn’t mean he’s playing mind, but there’s at least some hope to be had.
