Well I’m glad we didn’t bow to supporter pressure and play that in April.

Who called that at half time? Someone did! I thought Coleman was very calm, Toal was superb at middle centre back and Iredale did very well. Sheehan and Dempsey were excellent second half, and that winning goal *chefs kiss*

Great stuff.
Why is it that after the game Evatt looks like he's still giving the referee grief. We've won and he's sent off one of theirs.
Lovely turn out from the fans. Oxford pegged back against Northampton too.

We deserved the win on the basis of the second half - and we’ve ground a result out again. Need to start playing for the full match. Santos back on Saturday which will help.

Still daft IMO... but I'm very very glad we won. Well done to CMG for the goal and Sheehan for running the show. Ogbeta also showed promise. Good work Jack Iredale as a sub - looked better with him back there.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 9:42 pmWell I’m glad we didn’t bow to supporter pressure and play that in April.
Curate's egg of a performance really - not just a game of two halves. I really don't think Bod's a 9 (but I love him and think he's a good sub 10). Maghoma still capable of being brilliant and suspect. CMG similar - although if he plays as a 10/forward the failures are less dramatic than if he was played as an 8 (not something I would do imminently, especially with Thomason returning and the fixtures getting harder). The Taylor thing is a puzzle - he's not a bad player but we seem to play worse with him there, perhaps because Toal's still not very convicing at LCB.... which might become a live issue again when Rico returns (should we keep Jack there?). Sheehan genuinely looks brilliant when he's on it, a proper pleasure to watch, but he was as lacklustre as the rest in the first half.

Great result. That win, especially coming from behind, is psychologically huge. Could be the result to galvanise the team after a rocky run of performances.

Deserved win, but nervy. A good second-half, but not irresistible. So long as we can continue winning with the ‘buts’—and not drawing/losing—we’re happy.
Weirdly, we’ve taken on that form of last season in which we were a second-half/stoppage time team. Less comfortable viewing.

How did Coleman do tonight? Any improvement in performance?

Yep, he was pretty solid. Not overly tested, but he didn't make any errors, so an improvement for sure.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 9:57 pmHow did Coleman do tonight? Any improvement in performance?

Not the best, but I keep reminding myself about out injuries, Baxter, Santos, Thomason, Williams, Charles...on that basis, a good ending and three points but we made it hard. Have to stop coming from behind to Hulton Lane goals though. I was gibbering at half-time. If we get to using our strikers sensibly we'll do fine. Jon Bod has educated feet and was unlucky somebody blocked a fine effort. We just have to get used to playing what's in front of use. Well done the lads though, a good three points.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?

Sheehan probably MOTM for me, as in the second half he looked like a Premier League player in the third tier. Toal ran him fairly close, though - his best performance in a good few games.

Yeah Sheehan, Toal and I thought Dempsey second half - he popped up everywhere. Just weird how poor we were first half.
Two tougher games than that next though - a win today was required. We could get 4 points from the next two as par. Anything less and we’re back to relying on other teams. No wriggle room now.

Never in doubt. Or something…
Does anyone else think CMG looks much more effective up front than in midfield for us?

I think he looks less... potentially risky. He's very much not a "percentages" player - he'll zig when you expect him to zag. As an 8 that could be weird for his teammates (and defensively dangerous?), but as a 10 or 9 it's a kinda chaos engine, changemaker and frankly matchwinner thing.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 10:26 pmNever in doubt. It's an interesting conundrum. In the last 4 games he's played a half at Northampton when we'd torn up the formation, and he scored the equaliser; then tonight we played him up front and he scored the winner. In the two games between he was apologetically lobbed on in the 80-oddth minute. Give him time and he'll do things.
Tonight's performance might have given him a strong chance to play up top again, especially in away games (and they're in glut right now). Problem is that his best position might be 10, which is the same as Bod and the big new signing.
