Some vaguely concerning noises coming from Atherton post-game regarding Baxter’s injury. I suspect we won’t be seeing him on Tuesday.

Mendes Gomes has been very good. Maybe time to reassess him and find a way to get him in more?
Well, three games of opportunity just opened up for a number 8.

Interesting that Atherton says JDC was given more rest. As noted he’s also talking like Baxter’s absence wasn’t a one-match thing. No mention in the BN coverage of Ogbeta being injured, although these things sometimes dribble out over a few days as journos slice and dice the postmatch quotes. Mind you there’s another presser tomorrow for Tuesday’s game… and it being Wycombe, you imagine we will need our taller defenders…

An opinion, so don't ostracise me if you please.

So, I race across the turf with one aim in mind; to get/intercept the ball. In I slide, leg fully outstretched, eyes on ball and making sure my forward foot is correctly inclined with my studs pointing less than ninety degrees of the horizontal and moving in a forwards direction with the accuracy of an Olympic tobbogan, towards a member of the opposition with the ball. Wallop, my outstretched foot contacts his and he goes down screaming agonisingly and does seventeen roll-overs. What? I went for the ball ref; do you think I don't know the rules on fouls? Am I going to get myself purposefully red-carded and sent off the field?..... Studs up? Where else could they be with me sliding on my ass across turf that's been rained on for a solid week?

Thomason hit the opposing player across the ankle area, not knee high and I don't truly believe from his astounded expression he knew much about anything except making a tackle. The referee, of course, knew differently, and the home fans made sure he did. Funny old game football, init ?

p.s. A comment from a referee on B.E.N.: "My verdict on that tackle was a good talking too and a yellow card. Bad reffing never a red, I've watched it a few times and slowed it down, as a ref "NO RED"............
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?

Apologies, I just listened back and Atherton is referring to Baxter rather than Ogbeta.

No worries - that’s good news on Nat O, if worrying on Nat B.

Something not right with the timeline for Baxter. Why did he start Tuesday, we get told he’s ok Friday then not play yesterday? I guessed at the time he was rested as a precaution - he’ll be needed on Tuesday if he is able to play…they have a lad called Sadlier who can cross a ball…

Baxter long term reading between the lines….not good. But keeper aside it’s time the rest stood up to be counted and firstly we need to stop conceding soft goals clean sheet or we are in trouble.

Sounds like he did it in the game on Tues. I'm not convinced he actually touched it with his hands, and certainly didn't have a meaningful save to make. So I'm assuming it's something from kicking long.

But he was fit on Friday apparently? I’m not buying it…

As a ref, what's your view on the Thomason red Pru. ? See, I have a theory that the Cobbler's medicine man made a mid-week pilgrimage to Lourdes and got a supply of Holy Water than can have the victim of a horrendous foul up and running about a very short time later totally cured. Maybe we should get some for Baxter and co...

It was a red, Tango. He slid in hard with his studs up and you can’t get away with that these days.

Put it this way - if I'd have been the father of the Northampton No.3, I'd have wanted to vault the ad hoardings and have a word in person.

As clear a red as you’ll see. Thomason is a very good player, but his ill discipline isn’t exactly helping our promotion push.

I bet most rational supporters when watching it live thought "ooh he's got to get a red for that"
Looking at the blurry screenshots above has done nothing to change that opinion

Yeah, the stills are a bit rubbish. This better? Not for GT's defence lawyer... :?

I mean - it’s a stupid challenge. Let’s not pretend otherwise. I’m not having ‘stonewall red’ though. From what you can see he goes in with studs down at ankle height. It’s never being overturned and I mean it’s not some dreadful decision to send him off.

It’s that in between category. Probably a red but at least half the time would be given a yellow. I see challenges like that a lot that aren’t given red cards.

Well yeah, it was very similar to one he got booked for at Blackpool. You just play the situation don’t you - that ref, at that point, had lost control and was dishing cards out. George lost his head.

I think it's a bit tricky to argue you were in control, whilst airborne!
