Terriers Barking, But Can Bolton Bite Back? - Bolton v Hudderfield - 14/09/2024 @ 3pm

Not done a match thread this season.
As people like saying "must win" etc, I think we need a positive result to keep up the good vibes.....

Gonna be a difficult game but not impossible.

COYWM!!!

Good vibes? Not been any of those for a while.

I suspect that we will win this. No idea why I think that I just do. We need to that’s for sure.

We’re due some luck I think. Feel Duff has Evatts number. And it’s easier than it has been in the past to stop us. But yeah, we have pulled results out of the bag like this before and we’re definitely not a bad side. Keep the faith!!

It'll be our 61% possession.

2-0 Whites.

Duff has a touchline ban. Would love to see the stats for Duff v Bolton from a managerial standpoint, because I keep hearing how he's got Evatt's number

Just found:

Duff has faced Ian Evatt more than anyone else in his managerial career, winning two, drawing four and losing three of their nine meetings between December 2020 and March 2023.

So Evatt has more wins v Duff - Hmmmm

But Duff's a PROPER manager, dontcha know. Not like Evatt with his new-age crap. Being a PROPER manager is worth at least four additional wins.

Yeah, I bet Duff doesn't order them not to shoot from outside the box!!!

Oh hang on...

Nervous about this but it is what it is. A bad loss and next week's home game vs Reading might be ugly for Evatt, assuming he wouldn't be reflexively sacked after the first game following an international break (and only the second league game since the window closed). A solid win, on the other hand, would hopefully allow our beautiful club to get some momentum going into what should (should!) be a largely winnable run of games thereafter (with a cup free-hit at Arsenal).

I do wonder where "reflexively" fits in. Is it like the Premier League and we just pretend football hasn't happened before (in this case the international break?) Our ppg since Jan hasn't been great..

Aug 2020 - Dec 2020 - P20 26 points PPG = 1.3
Jan 2021 - Jun 2021 P26 53 points = 2.03

Aug 2021 - Dec 2021 P22 26 points = PPG 1.18
Jan 2022 - Jun 2022 P24 47 points = PPG 1.95

Aug 2022 - Dec 2022 P23 37 points = PPG 1.61
Jan 2023 - Jun 2023 P23 43 points = PPG 1.87

Aug 2023 - Dec 2023 P23 48 points = PPG 2.09
Jan 2023 - Jun 2024 P23 39 points = PPG 1.7

Aug 2024 - Today P4 points 4 PPG=1

PPG 2024 = 1.59

PPG required to hit 92 points = 2.1...

I'm giving this a miss.

Hopefully we get a win.

Probably in the "second league game since a window in which they gave the incumbent a large amount of money to acquire players".

I have no doubt the board's patience is finite, but I would be very surprised if he was turfed after a defeat this weekend - unless it was like 0-7 and the West Stand pensioners set fire to the roof in protest.

Have you ever tried finding your matches in a pocket full if Werthers? I hear your point, but every game we carry on leaking goals and points is making it harder to hit his own professed 2 ppg target...He's already at a higher ask than he's achieved since he's been here and over a longer period of games...

Big test this, starting with the team sheet. Had ten weeks with most of them, has that been spent fixing the basic mistakes hindering us, or has he spent it silently going mad/outthinking himself as can happen towards the end.

Big, big game, this.

In his latest interview on the website, he seemed to be suggesting that they couldn't do much about "crowd reaction." I don't think that's accurate. Play really well and it's going to silence most negativity in the stadium, methinks. Perform like Exeter game, maybe less so...

I think we will win today but his pre match interview where he insisted he was under no pressure whilst showing all the signs of a man under pressure hasn’t done him any favours.

Indeed. Starting to get nervous/excited now. Fascinated to see who starts and even more invested in how they do.....

Wonder if Randell will play a part down the right to make up for the Tutu injury?

A bit part, perhaps. Can't see Evatt dropping JDC for this, which might be defined a Must Not Lose. (He could really do with winning it, of course.)
