No welcome in the Hillsides. Away to Wrexham Sat 1 March 12-30.

Post by TANGODANCER » Sun Feb 23, 2025 10:22 am

Another frustrating full week of no football for the Schumacher Supers, so might as well have an early match focal point. Wrexham put us out of the E.F.L. cup (although few cared much about that). so in terms of tough games, the daffodillies away then Brum at home three days later is no easy task. Both are high flying at the moment, so "must" win is the tag line as is every game right now. Can our new gaffer teach us how to stop giving away early soft goals and turn us into spartans instead of spare-part..uns?

The mood amongst the fans is optimistic and hopeful and let's hope that it's spread to the dressing room. It does seem to have with camaraderie replacing scowls, so let's get in there and cause few Leeks in their defence. Lechyd Da .... :D

Don't forget the 1230 start...

A 1-2 win for Disney at Mansfield this afternoon. They also have the EFL Trophy semi on Wednesday. Assume they'll put out a reasonably strong XI for that. Might be helpful for us.

I’d actually assume they won’t put that strong a team out on Wednesday. Very short turnaround for them, and the league is surely their priority.

The league is the priority, but think what a Wembley appearance will look like on Netflix.

I was at their most recent appearance at Wembley. As were Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell and David Beckham. They lost

" A Tuesday with no Pancakes" might have done as a thread title considering it's the truth. Tuesday almost is Shrove Tuesday this week. Seems forever without action right now. Hope we don't lose our momentum because of fixtures. ae:)

I'd rather the coaching staff have time on the grass. Perhaps it's a fair point that Orient, who played last midweek, went in front - but we, who rested and trained together, finished stronger.

Don’t settle for it of course but I’d not be unhappy if we came away with a hard earned point from here. Game is winnable of course but also feels to me like potentially the toughest fixture we have left. They are never going to be easy and Parky will be smarting from their loss to Orient last home league game. Fixtures aren’t ideal for us with this quickly followed by Birmingham. Would prefer a full week between.

Two very different opponents, too, especially as regards possession.

Finally got around to watching the Orient game (things take a while to reach the South West).

But watching all those injuries occur, particularly to Mcatee and Vic, makes me worry we’ll have a light squad come Saturday.

But you can really see the togetherness and confidence again, so even with injuries I think we’ll give them a much better game than we did in the cup.

I'd put money on them being at full strength on Wednesday. Chance to get to a Wembley appearance, all the players will be chomping at the bit to be part of it. Not playing a full strength side will probably do more harm than good.

Add to the fact it's a chance to live a dream of Wembley and winning trophies....

Lets hope they go to pens and are knackered for the early kick off on Saturday.

I'm confident we can win this. Regardless of their Wednesday night fixture. We need to be more clinical of course

Not sure they will be fill strength Wednesday. Most of their fans seem to prefer focussing on the league. They are in a remarkable league position considering where they were 3 years ago so I suspect that is where they will focus on.

I'm not sure it's that remarkable given the money they've spent. In the National League and L2, they had L1 quality players on L1 wages.

Sure to an extent though I feel this is somewhat overblown. They are spending good amounts but from a standing start. It’s not like they’ve spent billions or even on the same level Birmingham have even in relative terms.

To be challenging for automatic promotion form league one after back to back promotions having spent the previous 15 years in non league is remarkable and I think it’s churlish not to say so. Even if that is caveated by ‘well they’ve spent a lot’. Yep they have but that doesn’t guarantee anything.

What have they spent? Or, how big is their wage bill compared to other League One teams?

Personally interested how the 8th place team compares money-wise to the top six. I think Bolton have relatively deep pockets for the division but I have no idea.

Their wage bill from the last accounts was £6.9M. I believe ours was around £6.5M in league two.

They made a 5M loss in their last accounting period same as we did. They have a smaller turnover though.

They’ve spent a lot but not on the levels many make out.

If you want to put money on them going full strength tonight I’d happily take the other side of that bet!

I would assume that Posh will rotate significantly themselves as they fight to stay in Div 3, so Wrexham probably don’t need to go strong in order to win. I reckon they put out a similar team to the one they fielded vs us.

They've put out an understrength XI. As far as I can tell, only two of the outfield players started at Mansfield.

Wrexham played a second string more or less tonight. As suspected.

Edit: and lose on penalties having been 2-0 up.
