No fools in April. Away to the Pies, Tuesday April Ist 7-45.

Post by TANGODANCER » Sun Mar 30, 2025 1:17 pm

Having just lost three in a row, we have little to shout about as our Athletic pie-scoffing neighbours welcome us on a cloud of gravy and good will (or maybe not?) come Tuesday night. Making predictions is about as useful as forecasting the Lottery, so maybe best to stick with hope and Que Sera and think we might have learned a lesson or two from recent encounters.

Go forth boldly and maybe we've seen the error of taking things for granted in this unpredictable season. Mister Schumacher doesn't make sloppy passes in our half, shout at officials or blast hopeful balls into nowhere land, that's down to the lads in White, so fight the good fight, button the lip and get a grip on reality. :wall:

Recent away performances against this lot have been much better than our home performances but still only 1pt to show for it. We'll lose this. Just because we always find a way to when it's a derby and a big away following. 0-1

I note Schumacher has designated this game as ‘must win’. Haha.

:D

If he wants to get the 16/17 points he reckons we need for the play offs, then he can afford to lose or draw this one!

If we were to appeal Morley’s red, would that mean he would be available for tomorrow whilst the appeal is being heard?

Words along the lines of ‘if we want to finish in the top 6 then this is a game we have to win we can’t shy away from that’.

As close to a must win as you will get from a manager.

To me since Stockport he’s said the obviously right things but his face to me screams of a man who knows this season isn’t happening and is planning for the summer.

It's all pretty semantic. As a professional sports team, the prep, mentality and what occurs over the whitewash should always be "must win." Once you clear that hurdle, there's just a bit of maths left (which in this case aren't "must win") :-)

Unfortunately I can’t see anything other than a rousing rendition of “Bolton get battered” ringing around the stadium as injury time approaches

Getting thoroughly sick of that. Seemingly more than the players are

Schumacher confirms the club aren’t appealing the Morley red card. Correct call as I don’t think we had any grounds for appeal as it was a pretty clear cut decision sadly. Feel for Morley as he’s been our best player for me in recent weeks.

No expectations at all for this. Might win, might lose. The players I think are done in the eyes of most fans if they lose another local game and four in a row. Done. Probably if they draw too. So there is pressure on them and rightly so. If you don’t like that find a small club to play for.

Obviously I can understand the pessimism - this group of players have done plenty to fuel that. However, having watched this Wigan team play live recently, I am fairly confident that we’re at least unlikely to get hammered tomorrow. They’re a very limited side, and I imagine they’ll be looking to keep things tight and nick a 1-0.

If, and it’s a huge if, we can score the first goal, I think we win the game.

Haven't beaten this lot in the league since 2014 – and that was at home. Our last win at their rugby ground was way back in 2011.

Needs to change tonight.

I think we'll win. Not because we're great, but because they're really bad. The last few performances there (rather than at home) we've been a bit unlucky. And there will be less sideways and backwards waiting for the sucker punch. Time to stand up.

Last season they were on a terrible run and we were in form. They were expecting us to hammer them and hit us with a sucker punch then got the deck chairs out

We would beat Blackpool who weren’t very good and hadn’t won at home since 2024. Bristol rovers are down the bottom end. We could easily win tonight and equally easily lose. And I think that’s the problem more than anything else.

4 defeats in a row in league one is totally unacceptable for Bolton Wanderers though - I don’t care what the circumstances are. We need players who realise and accept that and can live with it.
