Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
^^ Bairstow has always had the talent. 2016, he was the best wk bat in the world by some distance, so England selectors thought they'd fcuk about a bit. I think a many, myself included, thought he'd lost it for tests...but I guess that's why we differentiate between form and class
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Agreed. He was great on 2016 but then had 5 years where he looked out of his depth and all anyone had to do was bowl straight and he’d miss it, while at the same time becoming the best ODI opener in the world. Seeing him now I can’t help but think the message from the previous coaching regime was probably too confusing, trying to make ‘test’ batsmen out of talented ODI players rather than focusing on their positive attributes. The amount of innings where Bairstow and Buttler just looked in a muddle scratching around for an hour before a tame dismissal suggests that.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 10:51 pm^^ Bairstow has always had the talent. 2016, he was the best wk bat in the world by some distance, so England selectors thought they'd fcuk about a bit. Buttler for me will always be a great ‘what if’ in test cricket. I’d love to have seen what he could do in the current side, but I don’t think we should go back there now. Let him focus on white ball and give Foakes a decent run.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Two of the years after 2016, they have him batting 3 at some points. He was up and down the order and generally all over the place. It's not the same (even in Club cricket) for a batsman would can punish a 25 over old ball, than facing openers with a one over old ball. Some people might adapt, plenty not.
I find the "make a test batter out of a ODI batter" interesting. He's certainly a great ODI player but He'd played 12 ODI's by start of 2016 but 41 test match innings. I'd say they found an ODI player in the test squad.
I think for both Buttler and Ali at the moment, like you, it would be a brave call to make a change right now.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
It would be nice to see Jos in the current team but I don't think the white ball captain can play test cricket, especially a keeper.
He was also interviewed the other day and asked about it and I can't see him coming back to test cricket.
Too many conflicts in the schedule. You can't have your white ball captain missing games to play test cricket, and I don't think you want to be chopping and changing your WK

What price words; actions are louder than them? That said, lets glory in them. All done with confidence and pzzas. Hat's off to all the team.

I don't envy anyone trying to score runs against this kind of bowling on this kind of pitch.

So the red balls go flat and do nothing, and the white ones are swinging around corners. Fun.

These white ones are Kookaburra. Apparently, they only tend to swing for about two or three overs.

Yeah. Didn't swing much back in the day...but then they're not designed to...nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 4:05 pmWorthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 11:39 amYou can hear the conversations from the Dukes manufacturing plant from here...."which ass painted red and white on them boxes!?!?"

England won yesterday in the final T20. Great batting performance but bowling a bit naff. Missing Woakes, Rashid and obviously perma injured Archer.
Topley though was outstanding with the ball.

Lanky started well in the field in the T20 final.

I've found the whinging about the umpires on the final delivery - whatever the merits - quite unedifying.
We got ourselves into a position where we needed six runs an over with six wickets in hand and we ended up hopping the tail could scrape us across the line. We should never have found ourselves in that position.
