7 each for Leach and Ahmed (in the match). Think both can be well pleased, but especially the young un. Could be home early for Christmas...

Super day all round.

Just a feeling we might have found someone in Ahmed. Lad looks special for someone so young.

Oh indeed. Still for his age he’s impressive.

First team in history to achieve a whitewash when visiting Pakistan. This is special. Really special.

It’s quite exciting with Ahmed. Think he’s the first England debutant who I’ve never seen anything of before, and barely even registered the name before he was called up to the squad. Really promising debut. Maybe best to have him around the squad in the next couple of years and only using him for very specific games - maybe end of series or weaker opposition so he can gain some confidence. In between that he can hone his craft in the championship. Maybe even get a move to a division 1 club.

I don't watch much outside of test cricket so they're all a bit of a mystery to me :-) Generally I'm in the if you're good enough, you're old enough club. I think sometimes we try and over-engineer elements that should be left alone. I can't help thinking someone like Murali, would've had his action "sorted" had he been English, probably to the detriment of 600 test wickets. I always felt like spinners need a little coaxing if they're getting some tap - if they then go a little flatter, faster and lose rotation, the danger is they bowl themselves into shit, slow, seamer, so I reckon the most important thing is him having a Captain that can keep him attacking in the context of the match...Nothing does that better than winning... :-)

My only worry with Ahmed is the one day stuff. MCcullum already talking about him playing the IPL to mix with top players. But I think that stuff can just mess up a leg spinner. As worthy says they end up bowling ‘flat almost Yorkers’ half the time.

He’s the lad Shane Warne picked out when he was 12 as being one destined for the top apparently. What a story.

Was listening to this story yesterday. Apparently, Warne said to him 'you'll play first class cricket by 15'. Took him until he was 17. That Warne, eh? Know nowter. 😁

As a slight aside, when they're using net bowlers for touring teams, it's not typically a random walk in off the street selection of cannon fodder, they usually pick the lads already in the system (albeit usually a bit older than 13 :-) )

I've just treated meself to "Hitting against the spin" (thanks for recco Jimbo) - will at least give me something to read whilst watching the next three parades...
I got this for Xmas following Jimbo's recco. Really fascinating, reached through it. Top stuff.

Been that much going on, I missed the fact there was actually a test series on, let alone that we were 1-0 to the good. Thanks for the reminder TD. :-)

England put in and get to 21-3 on a green wicket doing all sorts.

Went to bed. Expecting to wake up to NZ 4 down or something after England all out for say 200.

Instead England piled on the runs and finished 315-3.

Brook 184. Root 101.

I’ve run out of superlatives to describe this England transformation but it’s just ‘something else’.

Brook has been superb since he's come in. I wonder what happens when Bairstow (who broke lots of scoring records in his run), is back fit...hmmm

Stokes to pinch hitting opener? Bairstow to replace Crawley up top and play his ODI role? It’s a nice problem to have as you say. Brook has made himself complexly undroppable.

Yeah - I'm quite a fan of Bairstow at his best. But also conscious that last time he was at his best as the world's no 1 WK/Bat, we started tinkering. Might be worth a go, if he fancies opening though.

If they don't tinker, I generally work to "you only get back in, if your fella currently in charge of the jumper is failing"
