as an aside, England won the Gay World Cup this summer. On of these guys played in that Fash's Football Challenge on Bravo, nothing stereotyped about him. If they hadn't said he played in the Gay England Team, nobody would have been any the wiser.

I refuse to believe the quotes are for real and the hack clearly had a field day with his inuendo.

The wife doesnt fit in the closet (well not without complaining anywayscommunistworkethic wrote:was the that the closet door I heard there AT?americantrotter wrote:LOL I know one. This is one one of those situations where if I respond in the negative I look like I feel there is something wrong with it. As I am not gay I cannot respond in the affirmative. No closet door for me, just a fierce proponent of equal rights.

i think you're missing something in the humour AT. There's much hilarity raised by these sort of moves, which essentially create differences and more often than not are discrimination but of another kind.
One of the finest examples of this, was the behaviour of a contestant on the most recent Big Brother, a 6ft 2, 220lb canadian who described himself as a sexual terrorist. He enjoyed basically forcing himself on men - gay or straight, and making staright men feel uncomfortable. Yet this behaviour was never once decried, yet if man were to do it to a woman there would be uproar, a sexual harrassment case would be pending as we speak. Because he was gay, it was somehow acceptable.
Equality is a strange fish, many claim to aspire to it but few actually truly engage in it.

I thought it was the self proclaimed 'wacky paki' Shabaz who liked to force himself on other men?communistworkethic wrote:i think you're missing something in the humour AT. Serves you right when you quote a shitty f*cking rag like that.communistworkethic wrote:http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006350553,00.html

Amazes me how intelligent people like you still react to the Sun like this. Of course it's a shitty tabloid, but they all are. It's not like the editor and reporters are the same ones as in 1989. All the grown men on Liverpool sites writing "The S*n" - do me a favour. Not to mention those who weren't even born in 89 who do it.blurred wrote:Serves you right when you quote a shitty f*cking rag like that.communistworkethic wrote:http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006350553,00.html

I'm intrigued as to what exactly "serves me right"??blurred wrote:Serves you right when you quote a shitty f*cking rag like that.communistworkethic wrote:http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006350553,00.html

Secondly, you talk as though only The Sun has been guilty of not report the facts as they are. Trust me EVERY national newspaper is guilty of it at some point.
Now can we leave the "scouse victim" bit at the door please?

I don't go as far as the whole asterisk thing (which equally gets on my tits on occasion). And yes, the reporting and editorial staff aren't the same as those in 1989, but it is still a 'newspaper' that is deserving of contempt for any number of incidents since, with or without McKenzie at the helm.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Amazes me how intelligent people like you still react to the Sun like this. Well if you're quoting an article from that particular publication and then doubting the validity of quotes or their provenance, or indeed calling into question the journalistic standards of the person who wrote the piece, then that's to be expected, and inasmuch 'serves you right'.communistworkethic wrote:I'm intrigued as to what exactly "serves me right"??

And yes, I know all tabloids, and indeed all newspapers in general, are guilty of blurring the lines between fact and fiction for their own circulation increases, or spinning stories to suit their own politics and pander to their readership.
To be honest if it'd been a piece from the Mirror online or the Star or the People or any other red-top, I'd've replied to your post with something along the lines of 'Well, what do you expect from the Mirror?' I just have a bit more bile in my belly for the Sun. And alcohol may well have been involved. But still.
Exactly. I don't see how people can make football more gay friendly, to be honest. One of my best mates is a lesbian and is a mad footie fan - travels all over Europe and gets to Anfield whenever she can. I don't think that any gay initiative would entice her to go to the footie more, although she has applauded this move from City in the wider sense of gay rights and anti-homophobia.Gnome wrote:jokes aside, i've never met a gay guy who actually likes football, let alone would pay to go just cos a club suddenly decides to be gay friendly, whatever that is

Exactly. Why does everyone here think that only gay men could be the target of City's directive? There are plenty of gay women who like football as well.blurred wrote:Exactly.
