Your body will burn calories without you exercising - it's your Basal Metabolic Rate, in men it's around 2,000 calories. Quite right. The cure for obesity is almost always reducing calories in, not increasing calories out.

However, I find that an occasional one hour work out is helpful in one way -- It's at least one hour during which I can guarantee I won't eat anything.
