OZ & NZ trip : Is the flight cost worth it

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

OZ & NZ trip : Is the flight cost worth it

Post by wovlad » Fri Nov 10, 2006 1:01 pm

Just been quoted £1533.00 (inc taxes & transfers ) to fly from Manchester to Wellington on 29/12
arriving on 31/12. Then Wellington to Melbourne on 18/01/07, Melbourne to Perth on 22/01/06 & then Perth to M/cr on 08/02 with Quantas. All dates are flexible except 29/12 outbound its the only flight
Quantas have that will get me there in time for new year. This thus far its the best quote I've had, although Thomas Cook are going to call me back

Given the time of year and lateness of booking the Ashes series etc do you think its good value ?.
As its over budget for me but a once in a life time opportunity. The agony of choice ?.
If I should die, think only this of me:

That is for ever England

Try Travelbag. They specialise in long haul flights, with personalised itineraries. I used them for my last States trip taking in New York, Hawaii (three islands) and Los Angeles.

I suspect, though it may be the time of year you're travelling.

Wovlad - I can recommend www.opodo.com

Have a look, they'll give you plenty of options based on how many changeovers your prepared to endure.

Get a one way ticket, wovlad. Then overstay your visitors visa (or simply disappear); either way you'll be put up in a nice hostel, fully paid for by the government, while all your (extensive) appeals go through the red-tape channels. At the end you will either be allowed to stay (you can claim persecution in your home country - Blackburn fans should cover that) or simply get a free ride home.

If you make it, mate, I hope you enjoy it. Mind you it seems like you'll be stuck in aircraft for many hours given your itinerary. Nah, sounds like a pretty decent trip. If you can afford it, do it.

I've just booked flights to the UK via Hong Kong next year, leaving Perth on 27th March for HK, then on 2nd April to London, then on 30th April back to HK and then 5th May back to Perth.

Flying Cathay Pacific on all legs the cost is A$1,790 plus A$540 taxes, so that's a total of A$2,330 or 930 pounds. I know that its not New Year time but it is Easter which is also a peak period for Aus/NZ/UK flights.

We find that it is usually much cheaper to fly to/from the UK using Singapore Airlines via Signapore, or Malaysian Airlines via KL or Cathay Pacific via HK or Emirates via Dubai rather than fly with Quantas. May be worth checking any of these flight carriers rather than Quantas.

Internal flights in Aus can be booked seperately via Virgin and they do offer very cheap flights at times, check their Aussie website.

I've tried those thank you & I'm now being quoted over £2000. Opodo quoted me just under
£2000 and that only got me to Perth via Melboune-Wellington. At the moment £1500.00 was the best quote from Thomas Cook but Quantas have given me an open booking. I have until 17/11/06 to book at £1533.00. They have 3 tariffs low-mid & high. Only on the outbound leg am I paying the mid fair on all other legs its the low fair. I'll keep looking but Quantas are favourite at the moment

Most airlines have special deals on from April next year and I could certainly do it for less then a grand
then. Trouble is OZ open tennis is'nt on then and its there Autumn / Winter. I've been to Wimbledon, the French & US Opens. Only got the Oz Open to go and I've done the grand slam.

If I get to watch Sharapova, Hingis, Dementieva or Hantuchova. To name some. I won't always be
thinking about the tennis.
