Is it me?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Is it me?

Post by Dave Sutton's barnet » Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:27 pm

Or is this strand of "writing" incredibly annoying?

Apparently the "cult" (I think they got that slightly wrong) blog MyBoyfriendIsATwat.com is to be turned into a book, bagging the writer lots of money. Good: then she can either shit or get off the pot - if he's a dick, leave him.

It simply winds me up when people feel the need to whine in public about their choice of partner. Lucy Mangan, an otherwise capable writer, regularly spends half her Guardian column whining about how her boyf is useless. You think I care? At least Mil Millington, who arguably started the genre with Things My Girlfriend And I Argue About, was equally spearing and sparing with himself and his partner. When it's simply a list of grievances, it's victim culture, "comedy" as derogation, wholly unsympathetic and the writing equivalent of kicking a cripple. Then getting into bed with him. And I don't care that the boyfriend is aware of the blog, dared her to start it, loves the infamy. That just confirms that he's a dick.

Oh and is it fair to say that the blog would have been rather less feted if it were MyGirlfriendIsATwat.com?

I don't. Just saw the story in the Media Guardian and thought I'd share.

the other notable blog that has made it to print is http://girlwithaonetrackmind.blogspot.com

similar sentiments, a blog by a bloke about his shagging fantasies would have been dismissed as perverse

Is there more than one?
Possibly. They tend to be intelligent.

Media supplement on a Monday. One has to keep an eye on one's industry. And chuckle at New Woman losing 45% of its sales.
