An earlier caller mentioned Dimitri's "tapas bar" in Deansgate ... I went there reluctantly after the girl pointed out it always seemed full with a queue outside. And that was worse than La Tasca.

No offence to readers, but I don't think the Brits are the best judges of Spanish food, which is understandable if your experiences of Spanish food are limited to Costa del Sol and stuff either side of Las Ramblas in Barcelona.

A visit to San Sebastian (and up in the Basque region) will set you right, and render all other Spanish food you've eaten as pretty poor.

Outside of San Seb, the best tapas I've had is in Sydney - cute place overlooking Bondi Beach, called Mojo's ... real Spanish chefs serving fresh stuff in teracotta bowls - quality.
Try El Rincon, just off Deansgate m/cr best restaurant Tapa's I've had outside of Spain. Its a family business & they can cook
If I should die, think only this of me:

That is for ever England

Spot on jonny! I travel to San Sebastian on business quite often. It's rated by Spanish gourmands as the best city in Spain for food and drink - and rightly so.

Ivan Campo's home town too!

Looks like I'm going again on Tuesday night
Did you have the all you can eat option?
Yes. Great stuff :D

Although the waiter did spill a beer over me by accident. So they knocked some money off the bill (It didn't matter much to me I wasn't paying :P )
I ended up feeling quite bad for the guy, I thought he was going to cry....

Looks like our closely guarded secret's out now Bruce. El Rincon's officially "the place". Ah well, it's the best so it had to come out. Viva El Rincon de Rafa.

We are off to Wagamama's tonight, but might try and have a go of El Rincon.

Just saw on the previous page that HRG suggested mongolian grill / ghengis khans, fooking gorgeous!

Aye, it's all your fault.

If anyone's up Glezzga by the way, then I heartily recommend The Ubiquitous Chip, up in the west end.

Went there last night and it was absolutely superb. The venison haggis to start (with an accompanying Glayva) is just awesome.

I've probably mentioned this before on this thread, but if you fancy venturing out of the city centre (of Manchester), nip down to Chorlton and find a Turkish resturant called Turkish Delight on Barlow Moor Road. It's close to the juntion with the four banks (Barlow Moor Road and Wilbraham Road).

What happened to that Turkish restaurant over the way from Ikon? Went there once and it was fairly good.

I would recommed Maison Bleue on Victoria St, heading down George VI Bridge towards Grassmarket for anyone venturing to Edinburgh.
