Just for interest, what dollar rate did you get Ginge? We were luck and managed 1.93 at St Andrews Travel (usually a decent place to go and we've used it a lot) but it's come down some since.hisroyalgingerness wrote:Aye well it's booked, packed and I don't even miss a home game. When we went to Toronto we actually got a much better rate from the ATMs, and with no charge

Without wishing to make an accusation of predictability against you, Monty, I did wonder whether you might drop by with a comment like that....Montreal Wanderer wrote:Toronto will do anything to get people to go.hisroyalgingerness wrote:Will be watching the dollar closely, got a week or two yet. Thanks for all the advice, have just got back and top and tail is thus:
North end of strip is tat, didn't really like it up there. That's round the Sahara, Strat and Hilton etc. That really was Blackpool for Yanks. The centre, bar the Freemont St roof is stuck in a time warp, was really eerie I thought but in a cool way. Went to the Rat Pack show there which I was looking forward to but it wasn't quite as good as the one touring the UK, it played too much on laughs and stereotypes.
Mandalay Bay was superb, couldn't fault it. From being on the beach and wavepool in the day and great restaurants it was ace. Location wasn't a massive issue as you could get a monorail to the Excalibur, over't bridge and you're in the MGM Grand. Being on the south of the strip you didn't get as many tourists trekking in for a look round, and the pool was residents only so that aspect was superb.
Know what you mean about staying central but I'd only stay at Mirage or Bellagio I reckon if I did, and the clouds in the shopping centres were of course very nice

I was there in mid June last year, holy shit it's hot. It is saved by (obviously) not being humid, but still, walking a block is for the nutters only.General Mannerheim wrote:

Well out of the 5 days we were there 2 were very hot by my ginger standards so I'm sure June will do you justice.
Having gone with the mrs the strip joint action was slim to non. We got a free entry voucher to Ivan Kane's Forty-Deuce which described itself as "a burlesque show - girls dance to a cool bump and grind trio" and made it sound dead classical and traditional amercian. We went in and was basically a strip bar without the stripping, no aforementioned band tapping along whilst a girl in cowboy boots shakes her ass. After an awkward 15 mins of not knowing where to look I suggested we went elsewhere
The Saturday night was pure chick-mayhem. Just did not know where was safe to land my eyes. There was dresses everywhere, and all with loser boyfriends in t-shirts and often shorts. Rokvegas at NYNY looked cool and I can recommend the Revolution Lounge at the Mirage (book though, it's small. though is worth if for the Austin Powers-esque 60s mini-dresses). There's a Hawaiian Tropic bar at Planet Hollywood that is also very pleasing on the eye

Gave them a miss on the basis that we'll be back. Spent more time than most at the hotel pool, and make no apology for that!
On an aside, I couldn't believe just how many overweight Amercians there are. If anyone's seen Wall-E and the bit where they're all being carted around by machines, well there were bits of Vegas that reminded me of this. There were just these families and they were HUGE

I'd have gone for "because ginge doesn't need the prossies, but as you like
Here's one for the general, definitely check out the Revolution bar lad, they train em good

This is what night mode did to the ride at the top of the strat

The Venetian 9pm at night = nice clouds

A dishevelled, hungover and frankly knackered HRG at around 8am Vegas time when he heard the news that Matty Taylor had made it 3-1

Bellagio's glass ceiling
