My favourite by far:
I actually laughed out loud at that oneMike, usa expat wrote: There has not been a decent British comedian now for many years. Near the knuckle comedy won't die because of this. And there are dozens of comedy clubs where you can see that sort of thing live, you don't have to sit and wait for it to come on TV.
Anyway, what Ross and Brand did hardly qualifies as 'comedy' as it crossed a line that genuine shock comedy always stays the right side of (see Chris Morris for a lesson on how it should be done).
Brand is an unfunny, contrived, big headed, obnoxious, West Ham supporting cretin. I hope his career sinks without trace.

I knew it wouldn't take long for them to turn their sights to something else. feck me, lets just ban comedy all together and stick to watching Last of the Summer Wine.Verbal wrote:Daily Mail turns on Mock the Week now.

Ponderland recieved 70 odd complaints yesterday, the majority of which were lodged BEFORE the show even aired. Ridiculous, though it was funny to see that channel 4 actually recieved more feedback of praise for actually airing it.
The show was hilarious and was great to see Russell on top form. And apparently NME have offered him a return to Radio and he's keen to continue doing the show.

Think there's a good few of them that, if they thought about it, and their own grans, would have wanted to stab him if he'd done it to them...Tombwfc wrote:I highly doubt it, if anything he'll be more popular. Maybe cos they were really angry at the way he'd treated them...
Or, maybe, just for a laugh, like... After all, that's what's important...

Possibly. But it doesn't really work like that. I'm sure people would probably be a bit annoyed if they had been invited on a quiz show only to have their wife taken the piss out of, or if they turned on the tv to a panel show and found all the people taking the piss out of them on there. But you don't think about that.Think there's a good few of them that, if they thought about it, and their own grans, would have wanted to stab him if he'd done it to them...

Like it or not, a large portion of comedy in this country is based around ridiculing others. And very popular it is too. But just because you like something doesn't mean you'd like it happening to you. I'm sure readers of Heat magazine wouldn't like themselves being hounded by paparazzi 24/7, but they'll happily read about it. I'm sure football fans calling Gary Megson a wanker wouldn't like to be on the end of that kind of abuse, but they shout it.
That may be hypocritical, but it's reality.

How about making obscene 'phone calls. Last time I looked it was a criminal offence.
This is what gets to me. If I'd rung up an OAP and screamed down the 'phone that I'd fecked his granddaughter I'd expect the boys in blue to come knocking. I don't think if I said it was just a joke it would be a valid defence.
If you're rich, a politician or a celebrity it seems you are exempt from the law.
So you defenders od Woss and Brand, one rule for them and another for the rest of us?Sachs has said he won't press charges. Doesn't matter who you are, if the man doesn't press charges then that is that as far as the law is concerned. If you're rich, a politician or a celebrity it seems you are exempt from the law.
The main gripe of the 'defenders od Woss and Brand' is not that the fact that they took offence (indeed, one of the shining lights of this is how gracious Andrew Sachs has been about it) but that national newspapers have jumped on the bandwagon, caused a stir and made 1000's of people complain about something two days after broadcast, the majority of which would have done so going off comments in the paper.
To top it all off, this hurt little victim Georgina goes and exposes all the intimate details of her and Brand in todays paper. She must be so hurt, really she must. Enough to spill every detail to the paper for a wad of cash, and continue posing in pictures such as this:
http://salvationgroup.com/satanic/sluts/087a.jpg (Again, NSFW!)
Precious little thing, never done anything which could stir up controversy.
And in reference to the 'it was a joke' defence, both Brand and Ross have apologised by letter for what they did, privately and publically. And Brand's lost his job, he is in no way connected to your taxpayer dollars anymore. Owt else?

That said, calling the Daily Mail hypocritical is like saying Megson is slightly cautious. Some things just go without saying.
