The Greatest Ever.... Movie Action Hero

Post by ratbert » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:59 pm

As an offshoot of the Die Hard thread, lets settle the crown of best ever movie action hero with a great big bundle right here.

All I'm going to say is, 'Wings Hauser'

Hang on. You can't steal Puskas's post and not include the quite obvious winner - Bruce Campbell. Thats cheating that is. He beat the Evil Dead y'know. 3 times.

I'll go for the "other" option and say Bruce Lee/Chuck Norris.

he defeated a whole building full of terroists, saved planes from dropping out of the sky and had a fight and won on a wing of a plane, and then beats a load of terroists throught new york, and then saved america all on his own.

i would say sly stallone but he got beat by a man now promoting snickers

The Chin more belongs in a poll of cult actors, but he makes 'others' here largely for Evil Dead and the brilliant Bubba Hotep.

Chuck Norris can't be trusted - Andy Walker was never a Texas Ranger.

Ditto!

Eastwood was the first real 'anti hero' action hero.

You only have to look at his movies: Dirty Harry's, Spegetti westerns, any which ways.

He paved the way.

Of that era though Tango, John Wayne I'd argue was more an action hero in the context we're talking than Bogart. Bogart was more a dramatic actor who happened to specialise in thrillers.

I was actually just joking Rats. I grew up with Bogart, Wayne, Burt Lancaster, Robert Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Gary Cooper, Glenn Ford, Errol Flynn and co as my film heroes. Lancaster (an ex trapeze artist) and Douglas were a class apart.

Can't disagree with you on the quality any of those fellas there, TG! I'd throw Tony Curtis in that mix too.

Where is the indestructible Jackie Chan?

Bit of a silly video, but it's a good showcase. Ignore his latest crap, the 80s and early 90s were his best stuff.

I'm surprised Harrison Ford isn't in there in one or other role - Indy destroyed a few Nazis and other nasties in his time. Can't argue with any of Tango's picks - I still love the action/adventure movies from the fifties.

Bruce Willis it is for me. Die Hard was my faborite growing up, and he was pretty damn good in Pulp Fiction in a more serious movie with some action.

I think that's a fair point, in that, of the others on the list, he's the only one who can actually act...

We live and learn, although I wasn't a mad fan of the film. Must have watched it half asleep. :(
