Hmmm yes - looks like something on the machine. bought new HDMI and AV cables still no signal so looks like something on the XBOX rather than something on the cables/TV. It sounds like you aren't plugging it in properly to me. I assume you went and purchased the cable that actually does component? They don't come with the 360 as standard (depending on which model of the console you have) so plugging it into the component slot on your TV won't work.Worthy4England wrote:For some bizarre reason, my XBOX 360 has stopped sending video through the scart connection. Was getting sound but no video. We needed a new TV for the bedroom anyhow, so went and bought a HD TV, plugged XBOX 360 in through both Component and (at a separate time) SCART. Both came back as "no signal". Is it possible for XBOX cable to go bump and need replacing? If I do replace should I get a HDMI cable?
Thanks.
Sorry if I sound patronising, but I've no idea of your level of tech-savvy-ness...
Is there any way you can take a photo of the cable you are using?
If there is sound then there's nothing wrong with the xbox and it's a cable or a human error.
Could use some information though, what setup were you running beforehand? Non-HD? 1080p HD? Etc.

I was using the standard packaged AV cable as Non-HD (to a non-HD TV) through the SCART. That stopped working. I bought a replacement standard microsoft cable (Component HD AV cable)FD wrote:It sounds like you aren't plugging it in properly to me. I amidst all this, I tried disconnecing the SCART and tried the three component cables that are on the standard Microsoft AV Cable. Still nothing. I tried both Non HD and HD settings on the standard cables.
I'm fairly technical, having been building PC's etc. for well over 14 years (off and on)

If you're not getting sound, I'd say you're settings on XB or TV need a tweakWorthy4England wrote:Ok, tech problem.

I mean, before, you at least had sound
So, why no sound now
Thatd be my starting point

But on the basis of yes I had sound, you've just inspired me to give it another go.
turn the xbox on first , on my tv the 'hdmi channel' isnt even selectable unless the thing plugged in the socket is on. i even saw a tv once where the 'scart channel' was similar.
also the HDMI on some tv/devices does not auto switch to the device. you got fert press the input switcher button (might be a circle with an arrow) on the tv's remote
if he really wanted to mess about he could use the 'optical' audio socket to figure out if the sound is coming out of that.
my guess is the av parts on the xbox are knack'd.

The TV doesn't auto switch to HDMI, but I have been selecting that as the input method.
On the standard cable that comes with the 360, the bit that plugs into the console, you can just about see a light (LED I suspect) on the right hand side. never spotted it before, but it's red - which often isn't a good thing.
£80 for a repair, but get an additional 12 months warranty with it. Had I not just bought a load of 360 games, might have been tempted to just try out a PS3 instead.

I have mine hooked up via VGA cable as a consequence of having an old 360 prior to the HDMI slots.Worthy4England wrote:That's where I'm at with it.a1 wrote:turn the xbox on first , on my tv the 'hdmi channel' isnt even selectable unless the thing plugged in the socket is on. i even saw a tv once where the 'scart channel' was similar.

Every so often when I switch on I'll get sound but no video. Been happening for years. Have to switch tv off and xbox, switch tv back on to the "freeview" bit wait for picture, then switch xbox on and quickly switch tv back to VGA port.
Once thats done it works for weeks. Then goes again, but fix always works.
Doesn't help your problem I guess but I reckon mine is an issue with the TV more than the Xbox, though that doesn't sound likely with yours.
It sounds like you may actually have the same issue that causes the RROD, GPU failure. Usual "fixes" apply, if you want to "do it yourself" or know someone who can do it, so I'm told!

Not so FD apparently, do a quick search and it turns out the sound but no pic thing can also be down to similar GPU issues as the RROD.FD wrote:If it was GPU failure he wouldn't get sound, it wouldn't boot at all.
Same kind of "DIY" fix works according to those links I found on Google.
I had GPU failure but no RROD just a scrambled screen. Its strange he has no picture at all, but seems relatively frequent if you google it!
near / on the av cable ? that sounds like the optical/spdif/toslink audio bit, its for pluggin' your surround setup into/from . laptop/soundcards have them on too. that red light wont be rrod.Worthy4England wrote:

if you mess about- buy an elite with loadsa games/pads and that (theres loadsa offer on in places)
put yr hard disk on the new one.
and sell the games you dont want/ old av cable twicers/old psu's/newunused harddisk/etc on ebay
and then sell the old faulty console bare too for a home repair geezer to mess with.
you'll make some money back.
Sorry mate, I was out of my mind last night, I don't what I thought I read in your post, or what I thought I was replying with but you are quite correct.BWFC_Insane wrote:Not so FD apparently, do a quick search and it turns out the sound but no pic thing can also be down to similar GPU issues as the RROD.FD wrote:If it was GPU failure he wouldn't get sound, it wouldn't boot at all.

I have a friend who fixes the GPU errors, even reflows the heatsink, but truth be told, once they go, even after fixing it's a lottery.
I'd head over ot amazon where they have an elite + 2 games for £199, sell the games...perhaps even get the 360 fixed and flog that too.

Oh mate i feel your pain! Whatever you do, don't try the towel trick, i left mine too long and it ended up burning out the whole console! Nightmare!Jakerbeef wrote:Our X-Box encountered the ol' red ring of death last week.
On the bright side I think that problem triggers 'extended warranty' up to 3 years. So we might get the fecker fixed for free.
Right at Christmas though, with 2 weeks left on my gold membership. Humbug.
