Adios!
All of those members angry a little bit of cold weather and snow got me mulling over the injustice of life in the real cold. So, tomorrow I'm off to Cuba to see if communism is alive and well (the last communist country I visited was Russia in August 1961 and they built a wall in Berlin to hinder my return). This time it is with my lady friend and my three oldest children to an all-inclusive at Cayo Coco.

Actually we were on an offhore island called Cayo Coco - we didn't even get to see Havana, so it was somewhat disappointing in that regard. No one lives on the key - there are just five resorts and an airport. The workers take ninety minutes each day to be bused in from where they live in the oddly named Moron, so it is a three hour commute per day. Still they all seemed cheerful and happy enough. The resort was fine if you only wanted to to lie by the beach or pool, with all you could eat and drink. If you had an interest in Cuban society or Spanish colonial architecture you would be disappointed. Still all in all a good week if you like the sun and sea.Dujon wrote:Someone to pop in and visit down Guantanamo Bay way, Amigo? Make sure the car you hire is seaworthy. Good luck.

Superb photos as ever, Monty. Though if ever I do go to Cuba it'll be to walk the streets of Havana rather than to lie by a pool (but you know that anyway).Montreal Wanderer wrote:I put together a little slideshow here, Bruce.Bruce Rioja wrote:Any chance of the usual photographic evidence, Monty?

I hope you had a thoroughly fantastic time, friend.
Cheers.

I would have liked to do a bit of both tbh but to do that you'd have to stay at Varadero, not Cayo Coco.Bruce Rioja wrote:Superb photos as ever, Monty. I'll have to go back some day to find the real Cuba, not some tropical never never land.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
