That London Place
Well it looks like a new job beckons for me which means upping sticks and heading off darn sarf.
Need some advice from London based posters on here on where I could set up home and areas to avoid.
I will be working at a number of offices around South West London, the main ones being Purley and Brentford.
There seems to be lots of "affordable" pads around Thornton Heath.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know that area well as I live in North/ North East London but, depending on your budget I would suggest commuting. If you have no family concerns (kids, wife etc.) try around Chiswick High Road. Good nightlife and eating places and just a couple of stops into Central London.
Good luck with the move and see you in Big Red before the Arsenal game.

Stay North or East and commute if you can is the only advice I'd give...

I lived in Chiswick up to a couple of years ago. handy for Putney and Brentford. Hammersmith would suit as well, but not as well to do as Chiswick.
Thorton Heath is a bit of a s.hole IMO. Worse commute too. All depends on how much money you want to spend on rent. Worth looking at the London Overground route as that connects well with West London

Why don't you live out of London but within commuting distance? I can vouch for Mid Sussex - very nice area, mainline train station (Haywards Heath) fab people
Re: That London Place
I'm working (kinda) that way. Trains run from Waterloo fairly regular (apart from last week, which was a feckin joke). Although I live in bethnal green (east london) my commute is only an hour, plus it's the opposite direction of most commuters so if you live east you can survive most of your journey without being on over-crowded trains.

I used to live in Mile End, cheap and really good transport links but don't even think about it.

Oh aye - and the "commute against the flow" is a great idea out East. Liverpool St station has about half a million people per day, trying to walk the opposite direction to you during rush hour...CAPSLOCK wrote:Middle of a shithole and an hour from workVerbal wrote:I'm working (kinda) that way. My commute's 25 minutes through some stunning countryside in the comfort of my car. Stick!Verbal wrote:I'm working (kinda) that way. I think I can just about cope with 5 minutes on the central line with another 50-odd in peace and quite reading the paper.
and bethnal green is better than farnworth. any day of the week.
