Junior football

Post by Prufrock » Thu Jul 07, 2011 5:49 pm

If anyone in the Chorley area or even further afield has or knows kids who will be U8s or U9s next year, so going into Year 3 or Year 4, and they want a football team to play for, give me a PM. We don't turn anyone away, regardless of ability. Anybody has or knows kids or a different age they are more than welcome as well, but we are desperate for Under 8s and 9s.

I hope I'm OK putting this here mods?

What a dick.

I'd love to get into coaching, would you recommend starting with the U8s etc?

I think it depends, some would say go with the very young ones, the only trouble is you have to have very good control. If not you will be explaining something to one player/ group and the rest WILL be pissing about. Equally, with them only being seven that isn't always something to get too worked up about, and you need to be able to let it slide. My own favourite recommendation would be sort of under 10s/11/12s. At that age they are starting to get it. They start playing really good football. We had a game on Tuesday where they scored with a 15 yard volley after a four pass move and really good cross. It is beginning to be 'football' by that age. Also they aren't yet teenagers and so aren't miserable. The miserable feckers. Anyway from very young to about 14 would be fine to start though. Get into it, I love it.

Criminal record check to make sure you are safe to work with Children I imagine is the first step.

Also, LL, we need coaches for the younger age groups too. I don't know where you live but if you'd be interested in something in the Chorley area give me a PM.

Just seen your message. I got into it because I was always a year too old for the teams the club had, but trained anyway, and when I got to about 15 the coaches got me helping out at training sessions and then a year later I did my level one and starting with my own teams. It isn't that hard to get into, you just need to do your level one. Most clubs will either pay for it or pay half (it's around a hundred quid I think these days) and you can still coach before you get it as long as there is somebody at the session who does.

If anyone wants to any coaching in the Chorley are then drop me a PM as well and I'll but you through to the people at our club. For anyone in any other area in the north west, you'd think they would have a section on websites for clubs neading coaches. They probably do but I can't find it. As such I'd recommend going here http://www.cljfl.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and contacting your local club's secretary asking if they need any help.
