Been happening in Northern Ireland since the start of the 1900's when home rule was a big issue

A sense of entitlement that comes from "A" claiming"(hypothetically) that "B" has a Merc when he hasn't got one completely ignoring the fact that "B" works his bollocks off for forty hours a week, pays his taxes and earns his perks, whilst "A" sits in the pub complaining he should be entitled to the same as "B". The rule used to be "live within your means" and your standard of living was what you made it. Mind you, that was back before thieving and drug pushing became national pastimes. It's being highlighted by the media about a handful of the idiots belonging to class "B", conveniently ignoring that the bulk of them are tossers from the "A" "entitled class". Maybe I got it all wrong, but that's how I'm reading it?
And smashing up a restaurant is rightly 'entitled'? Coz they're posh?

As for the Bish haranguing, there is some wank posted on here. LL's following of god's best friend complete with forehead smack got boring about a week ago but I think Hoss's sombre line about people dying and losing stuff is one of the funniest things I've read on here. It is perfectly reasonable when faced with a national crisis like this to examine the responses of the national leaders, and it is relevant to point out that when the mascot of London criticises folk for their shocking behaviour, in implied contrast with upstanding members of society like what he is and what we are, and thus allows us all to continue the notion that only scum do something like this, and they are just that way, and we are different, and better, and worth pointing out that he himself was guilty of pretty similar behaviour.

You might disagree with my and/or Bish's points but the over the top scouser line regarding 'have some respect' is laughable. It is less disrespectful discussing the adequacy of leaders' responses to the crisis than it is posting ranty whimsy about stopping benefits of those looting.

Im just new to this forum, so not sure if this has been mentioned before (and im not looking through 18 pages to see). Im not trying to start any nationalism rows, but why is this being labelled the UK Riots? As far as im aware all rioting has taken place in England, whice is one quarter of the UK. Obviously these riots are making news papers all over the world, sadly being christened the UK riots is giving the wrong impression of all thats taken place. I know Alex Sammond has written to the BBC to express his concern at the effect this could have on the repuation of Scotland, Wales and Norther Ireland who are wrongly being included in this story by the media. There has been 2 known attempts to start riots over facebook in scotland, within 2 hours of posts being made, the suspects were arrested and in court the next day.

The reputation of Northern Ireland? Fook me, we aren't that bad yet are we? And the Scottish don't want the lairy English ruining their fine upstanding reputation for order and decency in the eyes of the rest of the civilised world? They are called the UK riots because the country they happened in is called the UK (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island is a bit wordy). They haven't happened at my house either, so why aren't people pointing out on the news that I'm not involved?!

These "UK" riots are having a massive impact throughout the UK, but these are not UK riots. These are riots taking place in England. Would they be called the UK riots if taking place in Wales? I think not. I had family from the USA phoning asking if it was happening all over the UK. Like i said im not getting involved in a nationalism row, was just asking the question from a Scottish point of view. its tarnishing all the UK with the one brush.

Ok so given it's not a nationalism row, the riots are still occuring in the UK of which Scotland happens to be a part. The notion that Scotland makes up a quarter of the UK probably only occurs if you measure the land area of each of the lands within the UK (in which case Scotland is about a third). England is still over a half.

Yes happens it's within the English part of the UK, but given that in population terms that's 84% of the UK, then calling them the UK riots is absolutely fine.

As it happens I'd have no problem with them being called the English riots.

But they aren't happening in all of England either. Why should my reputation be tarnished?

And in fairness if this means England gets a reputation for rioting, we are only catching up!

Also possibly it is because, despite seeming really important to the Scottish for no apparent reason, no-one else gives a shit that they really, REALLY want to be a proper country and everything. They're just another bit of the UK. Cornwall hasn't seeing rioting. We'd best not tarnish the reputation of them either.

To take your question seriously for a moment. The state these riots are taking place in is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. You are saying that they aren't happening in certain parts of the UK, so the media should be more specific, and say they are happening in England. Well they aren't happening in certain parts of England, so how specific should they be?

Foreign news in particular is always going to refer to them as UK riots. Americans don't even know where Europe is never mind the niceties of Scotland and (part of it)'s search for independence. If they had happened in Glasgow they'd saw they happened in Scotlandshire, England.

I wasnt looking for any clarification of population sizes or area percentages. I was asking if anyone can give a decent reason why they are being classed as UK. A large majority of the Scottish public are annoyed with them being classed the UK, as it does only effect 1/4 of the UK.

Ive got the response i was expecting, but not exactly hoping for. Goes along the lines of British number 1 Andy Murray being Scottish after hes been put out of Wimbledon.

I flippantly made the comment on twitter, they're known as "UK" riots but aside from a wee kerfuffle in Dundee the unrest was largely within England. Nice of us to let our fellow Brits share the fun though

And call Murray whatever nationality works, he's still a miserable c*nt

You weren't looking for any percentages, but keep quoting fractions (Scotland are a 1/4) is absolutely fine.

Scotland is not 1/4 of the UK. It's less than 1/10th.

As I said they can call them English riots for me, I'm not in the slightest bit fussed one way or another, but I have no chip to carry.

As for that c*nt Murray, you're fcuking welcome to him.

All right then. Coz they are riots, and they are happening in the UK. Not fecking difficult. Sounds like more Scottish folk going out of their way to shout loudly about being different and everything! You don't even need seperate words for 'Scottish' 'Irish' and 'Welsh', they should just all call themselves 'not-English', coz that's all it is about.

Feel free to call them English riots. I'm no more doing them than you are.

The whole tarnishing the reputation of Scotland and Northern Ireland thing IS piss funny though.

lol not bad. He is that.

My fault for going way off topic, its a horrific situation thats thankfully looking like calming down. Sadly its innocent people who are bing punished for something that has nothing to do with them. Some of the videos on youtube and the news are shocking, and with people as young as 11 getting involved, its a sad day for humans no matter what nationality. The emergency services were un prepared but cant be blamed imo. Hopefully it will all die down and people can get back to some sort of normality.

Oh,and Bolton is English, so if you want to support us you'll have to be classed as a foreign supporter then.

not sure how associating these riots with Scotland and Northern Ireland is helping the fights that both countries are already facing.
