Re: What are you watching tonight?
Fambley went to see Diary of a Wimpey Kid and gave it a thumbs up. I took the opportunity of going to see Lawless, which I wanted to see but Mrs C didn't. Prohibition, hillside full of stills, the Law moves in in the form of Guy Pierce, a family reputed to be indestructible, a man has to do what a man has to do. Put all that in the mix and, whilst this is pretty standard stuff, it does rise above some similar offerings. Enjoyed it very much.
Looking forward to Killing Them Softly next week.

wasnt as impressed as you with Lawless tho, thought it could've/should've been a bit more interesting. bit bored of the Tom Hardy strong silent type thing now, although his grunts were pretty funny.

But he's not that masculine really, is he.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Watched Magic Mike, didn’t fancy it at all but Kermode & Mayo, Mayo especially, loved it. Pleasantly surprised, not the glitzy Hollywood side of a bus schmooze septic Full Monty remake i was expecting, it’s actually quite good, bit of a clichéd old story but it’s actually pretty funny! with likeable characters and some impressive performances, (Matthew Mcconaughey quality again) couple of LOL’s and a bit of female flesh to balance it out.. well it dosent balance it out at all but it helped. probably suffered from the cackling horny old women audience it pulled in but its well worth a watch. English actor in the supporting role too. Decent.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
I gave up my TV licence at the start of the year - mostly because there is fek all on and I found even if there was something I wanted to watch, once the box was on it would stay on regardless of whatever drivel I watched following... (perhaps a failing in me)
So now I only watch maybe 3-4 progs a week via the online catch-up players. Plus saving £145/year to boot! Just think by 2022 even if the fees don't rise (which they probably will) that will be ~£1.5K saved !!!!
I spend the extra time not staring at the box listening to radio & other such hobbies.
I recommend doing the same, as it really has freed me from wasting hours watching all the other rubbish that follows any good prog you actually want to see. It always seemed hard to just switch off after 1 prog only....

Re: What are you watching tonight?
i dont begrudge 40p a day for my TV license, the BBC's covergae of the olympics was worth it alone. im one of these folk who has to have the tv on even if im not watching it, just have BBC breakfast or SSN rolliing in the background. i feel awkward sat in a room with a TV in it thats not on. however, dont find time to just sit and watch any old rubbish, i get little chance to sit and watch it these days anyway so when i do, its to watch something ive specifically recorded.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Shameless last night.
What a load of farcical shite. It's been in decline for a few seasons now but it's a million miles away from the gritty comedy drama it was when it first started. They should be embarrassed to be making such childish nonsense.
Well past it's sell by date.
That said, Shameless USA season two must be out soon, definitely going to give that a go, the 1st series was brilliant.

It was very poor & the constant reversion to the psychological prison cell was greatly overdone (well. that it happened at all was a shame, but to return maybe 8 times certainly overcooked the idea).CrazyHorse wrote:Shameless last night.

I do begrudge giving a single penny to that organisation - their biased reporting is a disgrace!General Mannerheim wrote:i dont begrudge 40p a day for my TV license, the BBC's....

Always makes me laugh when people say "there is never anything good on TV."
You're just not looking hard enough. Or don't have Sky.

We've had this before. I'm more than happy to cough up my £12 a month to the Beeb for its magnificent website alone. Though I would like to knock a quid or so off for them constantly seeking out the opinion of the terminally insufferable Shami Cunting Chakrabarti

Me too. Pay direct debit and just get sent a new licence when it's due. Not the world's greatest tv watcher, but £3 a week for all that choice plus a dvd player? Do for me.Bruce Rioja wrote:We've had this before. I'm more than happy to cough up my £12 a month to the Beeb for its magnificent website alone. I'd happily pay £12 a month for the TV license for the right to use Netflix alone.
