Or the chap blind drunk at the bar shouting abuse at the chap 'rocking' the mic, that'd be me.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

The Cornerhouse tonight to see Black Shack Alley, which I saw first time round in about 1984.
A film from Martinique (in French, subtitled) - it remains powerful, moving and uplifting. In colonial days, a grandmother working in the sugar cane plantations struggles to raise her grandson, who has been orphaned. He is very bright. He has the offer of a place at the elite school in the capital. But the fees are very high. What will the grandmother do to get this child the future he might have? More here:

This was one of the first films from the independent Caribbean, the first by its director. It's great. It really is. Put it on LF lists...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Beasts of the Southern Wild is showing at the Cornerhouse. I can't do better than IMDB in summary... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125435/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is a beautiful film, scary, loving and redemptive. Many critics have recognised a debt to Malick's Tree of Life. And they are right - though this is less enigmatic than Malick's film.
It sometimes hurts, sometimes lifts the heart, sometimes calls the tears - and should be seen by people that care about cinema outside the hollywood box.
It's in English. No subtitles.![Wink :wink:](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

It's down a very nice leafy backstreet. Opposite a school, I think, if you need a landmark.General Mannerheim wrote:i tried to find it last week - where the frig is it?

Don't arrive early & if you do, don't appear to be lurking about & certainly don't be going taking pictures as the kids are leaving.Prufrock wrote:It's down a very nice leafy backstreet.
