Stayed at the Corinthia Towers when I was there, Bob, but work were paying. See if you can find a deal for it though.Bijou Bob wrote:Whereabouts in Thailand?? Loved every minute of my time there.
On a personal note, just booked a weekend in Prague for December. Anyone recommend a hotel?
May the bridges I burn light your way

Re: Summer Holidays
Usually stay in the Prague Castle Hotel. Like it's location near the Castle and in a converted monastery. Bit of a trek to Charles Bridge etc. but cabs generally reasonable price. Only thing is, used to be Crowne Plaza, but seems to have changed hands to Lindner. Not been since it changed hands....Bruce Rioja wrote:Stayed at the Corinthia Towers when I was there, Bob, but work were paying. Prague is a brilliant, brilliant city... PM if you want any more from me on this place...Bijou Bob wrote:Whereabouts in Thailand?? Loved every minute of my time there.

It will be cold in December...
I went for a short stay apartment but it looks like my company is out of business (though was great)... I've often found http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; good for the long weekend break...
Re: Summer Holidays
Cheers all, its not until December. I did find a great looking hotel with good reviews but its a former convent and the old headquarters of the Czech Secret Police. Not Mrs Bob is a tad nervy about staying somewhere that has had people tortured in the basement.
I'll czech out the Corinthia and Prague Castle and have a look at the apartments.

Re: Summer Holidays
The Summer holiday is a rare quantity in life. During the summer you could visit the sea side or some exotic countries. Summer vacations are meant to be fun, an adventure, a serious yet enjoyable part of life. Don't ruin the experience by fretting over planning and organizing. Before your vacation begins, allow yourself to be completely void of negative emotions. Don't waste your time, energy and emotion on pulling all the strings.

We're not going to Sicily. Cant you read? Bob is off to quaff some Czech beer and I'm sure he's booked it through a company that doesn't have text speak in it's name

Plus, the good thing about basements is that no-one has ever been thrown to their death from the top of one !! C'mon, think positive.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I'm perfectly fine with it but MNB is a tad squeamish and far more spiritual than me (ie. she's scared of ghosts). Having reviewed the very kindly suggested options, I voted with my wallet for a lovely little place near Charles Bridge, which is apparently the place to stay ish.bobo the clown wrote:They aren't still doing it, are they ???Bijou Bob wrote:Cheers all, its not until December. We used to eat our staff lunch off an ex-mortuary slab in a hotel I worked in that had been converted from a sanitorium.

If you ever get the chance to see a post mortem, do. It's an incredible experience. Best leave the butties till afterwards though. And the veggie option might be better that day

Re: Summer Holidays
There's an interesting thread in one of the newspapers today about the biggest rip offs you've had on holiday, following some daft sap paying 54 euros for 4 ice creams in Rome.
I was fleeced in Venice twice, but then coffee in St Mark's Square at 26 euros for 2 and a gondola for 75 euros were about what I expected to pay and you've got to do them once. Biggest holiday rip offs people?

Re: Summer Holidays
To be (partially) fair .... & I apologise for this uncommon moment of 'seeing both sides' ... the price of £13.50 per ice-cream was for a 4 dollop, plus top of the option wafer ... in a tourist area of Rome.Bijou Bob wrote:There's an interesting thread in one of the newspapers today about the biggest rip offs you've had on holiday, following some daft sap paying 54 euros for 4 ice creams in Rome.

Still expensive but the prices charged were accurate against the price list.
Oh, & yes, a drink in St. Mark's Square is phenomenally expensive, but walk 200m are you'll pay normal UK prices.
Gondola's are ludicrous but you can normally share ... unless you want your romantic moment all to yourselves.
OK, I'm sorry. I won't do it again.

Re: Summer Holidays
Had a week in Venice a few years ago and managed to avoid the St Marks fleecing. As said, just a short walk away food & drink was really reasonable.
Got stung pretty badly on las Ramblas in Barcelona. Nipped in somewhere and ordered a couple of cokes. My Spanish had been pretty reasonable and I managed a breif chat whie I was ordering. Then the lass asked me something which I couldn't interpret and I made the schoolboy error of just nodding and saying "Si"
She brought over two huge steiners (2.5 pt glasses) of draught coke
I think they were about 8 or 9 Euros each and unless you were American there's no way you could have drunk it all.
India though, takes scams to a whole new level
