To be fair the Chuckle Brothers disturb me too.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Quite an interesting article on the very same point.Worthy4England wrote:It was wierder than a lot of hearsay if I recall. The state, didn't pursue the case, whilst publicly stating they thought they had enough to convict on...Which sorta left Allen being pronouced guilty in the press, without it being legally proven one way or another...Beefheart wrote:Just saying I think it warrants further investigation.Prufrock wrote:There is a lot of hearsay and supposition in that!

So, Ken Barlow isn't a nonce .... official.
From what I read of the trial the prosecution case seemed muddled and imprecise. There's a raft of cases right now but if they go the same way, and how the le Velle one did too then these cases which relate to incidents from decades ago are going to have to be far, far tighter to get any air time.
The CPS look pretty stupid today.
I have no idea as to whether or not Roache is/was a good man (he's certainly an ODD man) but vague accusations from the 1960's and 1970's are always going to be difficult to fim up on.
I don't think there should be a time limit, but the current swathe of historical accusations is really scary. Having done f'call to a guy who was possible Britain's greatest (poor word choice I guess) perv it's like now the CPS are scared not to follow up.
Hopefully a sensible middle will establish itself eventually.

Agree with the above. I wonder what the prosecution success rate is, where the only evidence is uncorroborated alleged victim testimony. If it's zero, then just having 5 or 10 times zero is still zero.
Re: Well, I'd never have thought this ...
Looks like I posted in the wrong area about this.
I think the prosecution went for the throw enough s**t and some might stick.

A 73-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences as part of a police operation prompted by the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.
Scotland Yard said the man was arrested in north London earlier.

Well I checked the birthdates of the usual suspects and none were 73.Bruce Rioja wrote:I can. JT, whose daughter lives close by, by any chance? He's 74 and doesn't play for Chelski.
