Yeay Heeey.
Now, not that I've ever sent any of these kind of messages out, but I do believe that this sort of thing goes on.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Is that the Long Pull ?
3 whole weeks refurbishment ... wow. There were some scary looking beggars in there a few weeks ago. I feel you can tell the class of the clientele by whether the women's tattoo's are spelt correctly.

Never heard it called that before. Horwichers of my generation knew it as the 'Flea pit' iircbobo the clown wrote:Is that the Long Pull ?

Bobo are you referring to the two ugly bastards sat opposite you in the beer garden?
Also HG, the old Long Pull sign is still up on the back wall, visible from the beer garden but badly faded (like Bobo)

OF... I still struggle as tthere are/were two Bay Horses within about 100 yards. So this IS the Long Pull.
.... & no LE, unattractive as those two were it was the preponderance of Russian shot putter types wearing vests and with more tattoos than Popeye that I meant.

Dating from 1777 this stone built pub is locally known as the long pull. In the lounge pool and darts are played and the Sports TV is popular. Whilst in the cosy, traditional vault there is interesting football memorabilia.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
It certainly was known as that Monty but in my generation (born 1975) it's referred to as the Flea Pit. I'd never heard the Long Pull thing until having a beer in there with Bobo and his shot putter mates. Then I spotted the old sign on the wall. I'll ask my 70 year neighbour about it, he goes in there a fair bit. I'm just an arriviste from Great Lever so have no idea of the history!Montreal Wanderer wrote:Tinternet says:Harry Genshaw wrote:Never heard it called that before. Re: Today I'm happy about......
I'm of a slightly earlier generation but I note a number of pubs are known locally as the Long Pull - on the theory (doubtless false) that they gave a slightly larger pint than the competition. I've never been in the Horwich one but I'll visit if I ever reach my hometown again.LeverEnd wrote:It certainly was known as that Monty but in my generation (born 1975) it's referred to as the Flea Pit. Re: Today I'm happy about......
That would be great.
Here's an idea - there's a 2.00pm matinee on Sat 18 October.
The Whites are away at Brum (never a tempting fixture for me, though I've done it more than once).
My guess is the play will run at about 2hrs 15mins, inc interval. So follow it with a couple of pints and/or fish n chips at the Olympus.
Any takers?
